I wonder if everyone is overstating LSU's bowl prospects. They are a hot mess right now, their fan base is likely (= a guess) disillusioned, they likely won't have a strong showing, just want the year overwith and get on with hiring the new coach. The athletics department is supposedly completely dysfunctional right now (per SI story this morning), the AD has pissed everyone off in the league. I don't know, could see them getting stuck in Shreveport pretty easily......

AD is a Dukie who doesn't know squat about SEC football. This stands a chance of being a royal cluster.

Even if LSU loses this weekend they will finish 6-5. Hard to see them dropping behind the 6-6 teams. Thus I expect to see them get an invite from one of the gang of six bowls. My guess would be Liberty or Texas if A&M goes to the Cotton.

However, there is speculation the SEC office will drop them to Independence as punishment for the way they handled the Florida game reschedule.

I never saw the official word, why was that game moved to Baton Rouge instead of Gainesville?

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said earlier this week that LSU would not give up a home game to re-schedule its rained out game at Florida.

So I guess when they got rid of the mid major game they said they would only play in Baton Rouge to make up the Florida game and Florida let them get away with it.

I think LSU simply insisted on it and wouldn't budge. It's pretty rare for one school's AD to publicly rebuke another AD, but that happened here. Aleva has had a comically bad year, first firing then unfiring then firing Miles, so now he's being criticized from all corners: media, other ADs, and even the league office. Not to mention his own fan base of course (funny how fans run to the poles on their own AD, either awesome or awful, no in between). I wondered if Aleva drew hard lines in the sand about this silly thing just to win dummy points from LSU fans (we showed them!) in the end, they lost the game anyway - and whomever the new guy is now gets to go to Gainsville in back to back years....

However the 17 & 18 UF/LSU games will be played in Gainesville and then they start the rotation back in 19.

Just some random observations from reading what others have had to say
  • Don't think Arkansas and K-State will be matched up for 2nd year in a row in Liberty
  • Tennessee will benefit by not playing in SECCG and possibly get Sugar as only 9 win team
  • Florida like most SECCG losers will get "punished" for losing but shouldn't drop farther than Outback as Gator fans are notorious for not traveling to bowls that are outside the state borders.
  • Don't think the conference would put a potentially 6 win LSU team in the Outback Bowl, more likely drops all the way to Independence.
  • Texas A&M would get 2nd biggest boost to Tennessee by winning v LSU, possibly Citrus?
  • If that happens slot Arkansas into the Texas Bowl
  • Still don't believe our ceiling is any higher than Liberty, but an upset on Saturday would at least bring MCB into the equation.

Excellent post, i completely agree. Also, there have been releases by the Belk, Music City, and taxslayer bowls regarding teams that are in the running and UK has not been listed. I see many here thinking we're going to nashville or charlotte. Not happening unless we win on saturday.

If that is the best we can do, I would just as soon play a Big 12 team in Shreveport, I am not going to B-ham, Shreveport or Memphis anyway, so may as well have a good game to watch.

My guess is the combination of a UK basketball game the night before vs Ole Miss and a bowl game in Memphis will carry some appeal for decision makers. Just a guess.

I think they might have a list of preferred teams, but it doesn't guarantee they will get them. They might have to settle for a team like us if they don't get one of the first 3 or 4 picks. I am just curious how they do the picks since the 6 pool bowls are considered equal? If it is a random draw and then they see if the school they want actually wants to go to that bowl, it could be interesting. I believe the schools and the conference work together on which bowls they will end up going to.

Maybe with the crap LSU pulled with Florida, to go along with them having a disappointing year and firing their coach, might move them down the bowl list. Plus do you want a bigger named school that just had a disappointing season and might not get the fan support for the bowl or a team going to their first bowl in over 5 years who brings a ton of fans to their bowl games?
