I got a degree in economics, dreaming of doing economic analysis for someone and all I could find was a sales job in shipping. Then I sold flooring, then I parlayed that into a customer service job as a claims adjuster for Allstate. After bartending my way through college and working with people for basically 12 years I was finished with it and bored out of my mind. So I went back to what I originally wanted to do and decided to try to become an actuary 2 years ago. I needed on year of undergraduate math, which I could afford to pay for our of pocket, and in January I got hired on at Humana. Best decision I ever made. I live my job and the day I started I made 50% more money than the day I quit Allstate. Doing what I love doing and having a challenge every single day I go in to the office is what really gets me going though. Good luck to you OP. Having a job you hate can really big down your life, but stepping out to make the change can really be a stressful decision as well.
