I like this quote…

“Calipari is critical of the transfer portal and wants to get the rules "in check" so that coaches can still coach and impact young people.”

He did better with freshmen than he’s doing with transfers so he wants it back the old way.

His only connection to Wagner is that Wagner isn't that good and thinks Cal is the only one that can fast-talk some NBA GM into giving him a contract.
I agree that DJ isn't that good but most of us would agree that if Cal stayed at UK, he would've pushed DJ out the door to the NBA. Especially after DJ's late season play last year and in the NCAAT. Gotta strike while the iron is hot and DJ is what he is at this point. He's a tweener who's not a good shooter or particularly great ball handler.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he one of the first coaches to call for players to be compensated and be able to transfer without penalty?

Sadly they returned the core guys who made them good. Obviously they still will struggle shooting it but they played his prototypical defense and rebounding that his best teams played.
You also have to remember those same guys were in danger of missing the NCAA tournament for most of the year. They could be great this year since they brought back a few and added the recruits he always does. But in no way was his season a success until the tournament.

I agree but once Fland went out and he started relying on them they were pretty good. Now depending on how the five star guards pan out will determine how good but if they hit then they will be good.

BBN may be better off with him at Arkanass. If he retires God forbid some network makes him a sports analyst, because he might feel so inclined to nonchalantly throw shade at UK. This group will lose their minds.
Uh, he can’t complete a sentence. He talks in circles. Zero chance he could be a broadcaster.
He‘s also not very bright.

What do Adolph Rupp, Joe Hall, Sutton, Pitino, Smith and Calipari have in common? Answer: They used to coach amateur college basketball.

And how is this relevant to the abomination that is semiprofessional college basketball? Not one of them ever coached that sport at KY.

These coaches are no longer relevant to the current competition.

Calipari doesn’t “impact“ anything. At least not positively. He’s an atrocious coach.
He‘s had overwhelming talent almost every single season the last 4 years at Memphis, all 15 years at Kentucky, and last season at Arkansas. He won 1 title. And honestly, damn near choked that game away. I was at the game in New Orleans. He slammed the brakes on when we were on the verge of blowing out the Jayhawks. I was also at the Wisconsin choke job in Indy in 2015.
He should have been fired immediately after that game.

They would not have made the tournament if Sankey didn’t get involved IMO. They had a stretch of 6 games where they got the best whistle imaginable. Everyone says they got better without Fland. Not really what I saw. They just started getting an unbelievable whistle. Every drive was a foul call. Against Georgia they scored 90% of their points at the line in the 2nd half while beating Georgia senseless without any calls.
Georgia was called for about 6 moving screens in the 2nd half too. It was as bad as our Georgia game or worse.
Remember how Adou would drive into 3 guys with no where to go and turn the ball over constantly? That suddenly became a foul every time he went in there.
