Obviously score determines the winner in every sport. How you get to that score matters to some, though.
I get it. There's always going to be that though.

Some people can watch a pitcher's duel in baseball and be thrilled. Some can't.
Same goes for NFL- some love a defensive struggle and game that ends 6-0.

For the most part, people want to see a lot of scoring and offense. The problem is this is where that goes. A bland product in the long run. It's all about balance, like everything else.

Basketball will always be about skill and speed and not just who can beat the **** out of the other guy and dare the refs to call everything. That’s what good basketball is. Like Jazz. Improvisation around structure.

Pistons won an NBA championship doing that in 1990 and no one ever talks about it because they know it was ******** basketball.

But what do you expect from a guy who played in the Big 10.

The league went too far when it changed the defensive rules to make the game less physical. And it also went too far with relaxing how it enforced offensive rules like traveling and palming.

As a result of those changes, It’s just become too damn easy to score. A player putting up a big stat night no longer means the same thing it once did. Fans are no longer as impressed by it, and have grown bored with the current product.

Yeah I mean they essentially did away with traveling, 3 seconds, etc. it’s just the And1 tour now. College is starting to mirror it unfortunately.

They have definitely swung the pendulum too far in favor of the offense.

The Pistons and Knicks basketball of 35 or so years ago needed to change.

But not this much change.

The three point shot revolutionized the game in the 80s. And now it’s ruining it.

Move it further away. Anything to bring back the low post, mid-range play that made the sport so popular.

Bring back fullbacks and the I. That’s what made the sport popular

Times change.

The NBA powers that be got too obsessed with total points over the actual product about 10-20 years ago.

The game would be significantly better if they went back to a 30-35 sec shot clock

The 24 sec clock encourages pickup ball, jogging up and down the floor, one or 2 pass make a 1v1 move, 2 man game, or best case triangle offensive set due to limited time to run through a more complete offensive set where the ball rotates sides of the floor and there are series of screens and cutters that cycle until someone is open. They basically have 15-18 sec to run offense and usually try to get a shot before under 5 on the shot clock….so they essentially have 10 sec to find a shot. It’s all 1v1 and boring.

College beat the idea of shrinking the shot clock again a few years ago…I pray they never do as it emphasizes defense other than rim protection and on ball/ball screen. And it de-emphasizes running high quality offense while encouraging “make a play”

Leave it as is.

But if you do anything, you change the point values. Make 3s worth 4 and 2s worth 3. Freethrows stay 1 and for non shooting fouls you only get 2 FT but for shooting fouls you get the correct number based on what the shot is worth.

Changing the math is how you fix it. As it is now you only have to shoot 33% from 3 to equal 50% from 2. With the math change you’d have to shoot 38% from 3 as a team to make it worth gunning 3s all day

The irony from Draymond is that the Warriors brought that change for the most part (also Rockets/Suns with Mike D'Antoni). Watched the most of a game I had all year the other night and it focused on the two biggest problems. The Sixers were sitting half their team and the Celtics shot over 50 threes. It was at a get together, if I were home I would have turned the channel even though I grew up a Sixers fan.

Many have mentioned it, when you're allowed to shuffle your feet to get them set and your body square then most everyone's shooting and range will improve. When you can take several steps before and after your "dribbling", and can cradle/carry the ball every single dribble then everyone's speed and "skill" will be improved. Eventually all 10 players on the court will be exactly the same sans a couple of PGs.

Green sounds like a guy whose skills and athleticism have deteriorated…oh wait…
Maybe they have a Seniors league he can play in.

NBA’s been dying for years now.. After the 90’s, the league has been boo-boo 🤔
People like to say this, but it’s a claim undermined by the fact that the NBA is absolutely drowning in money like never before right now. And that’s only gonna accelerate after that $76 billion TV contract it just signed.

Making more money than you know what to do with ain’t a trait of a “dying” industry.

Not saying there aren’t fair criticisms, but anyone who says they prefer watching college basketball and claims the quality of play is better is full of it.

The talent level is clearly the best it’s been since the late 80’s/early 90’s.

Again, depends on how you define talent…

It’s easier to be quicker/“talented” when handling the ball if you don’t have to play by the rules…palming/carrying the ball, shuffling feet, etc, allow players to have more scoring opportunities instead of turnovers, and it allows them to get past defenders easier.

I’m not saying there are crazy talented basketball players in the league right now, but if more rules were enforced, there would be fewer guys who looked so talented.

The NBA is simply the best basketball in the world.

The best players in the world.

The game needs some tweaks.

And there will be some.

The new format is is on now and there’s a noticeable difference in intensity.

I think a bigger issue is that a number of stars don't play very often.

How are rivalries and in season storylines supposed to develop when some of the biggest names in the game are on frequent breaks?

A 30 point game use to mean something now any random player that gets hot from 3 point land can get there.

Many of the statistical bench marks we all grew up with are now made a mockery of with the current landscape.

I’m not saying Green didn’t play dirty, but dirtiest may be a stretch as there are definitely some other guys that were pretty nasty as well.

Bill Lambeer, anyone?

There's a reason why when USA players have to play by international rules they struggle... even when they win it's clear they aren't performing to their NBA standard.

Enforce the actual rules of the game is really the answer to everything.

You know what, you're right, we should give back our wins and title from the 90's. It was just horrible basketball all that running and shooting 3's and scoring and all. pitiful, how dare Pitino ruin basketball back then

if you think the NBA is awful for it now, you should have thought UK was awful then. or maybe people have gold fish memories and dont remember how awful the defensive era around 1999 til like 2009 was. games in the 70's and 80's for the NBA is yuck.

Yeah, but those UK teams were actually very fun to watch. They played tough nosed defense and with super high intensity! Not to mention, a full court press! Played like their hair was on fire, both ends, for 40 minutes!

It's not even that. The over emphasis on offense kills the game. I've literally seen a player catch the ball on the wing and take 15 steps in place switching pivots over and over with ref staring at him, and also seen a guy catch the ball at half and never dribble and proceed to take about 6 steps for a dunk and neither were called a travel .....
That doesn't even count the 4 step travels that happen every play almost.

You can't play defense really, and the offense can carry and walk to the other end over and over it's a joke. A basketball game ending 140-138 is rediculous.
