Agree! No excuse not to. We needed to take them out of their rhythm any which way… by pressing or more physical half court defense. Even by starting to foul Willis on his shots. Make him think he’s going to get fouled in order to get him out of his comfort zone. Send him to the foul line where he is awful which gets to his head and affects his outside shooting. Bottom line is that the RU coaching staff had to change things up and didn’t.
We did nothing to get them out of their comfort zone. It was laughable and inexcusable. Just like the players have to play every game, the coaches have to coach every game too
Down a couple of front court players?!?! lol they were down three players and they get the least amount of minutes from their bench in all of college basketball. Press them!! Tire them out. Do something to get them out of their comfort zone. It was inexcusable what we did today.
We can’t handle the press with our starters. We don’t have a PG.
Did I say they wouldn’t beat the pressure? The point is to get them out of their comfort zone. Make them work a bit. Minnesota had three guys play 40 minutes. We knew they had a short bench. Tire their legs out a bit. So insanely idiotic what we did today
Or make them work on D. We played a perfect style for them to mitigate the short bench. I’m sure Minny appreciate it.

Just wondered in my post-game post (just finished watching) why we didn't press more given they had 8 guys and they only got 6 minutes, combined from their bench.

Dude! You’re not reading what I’m saying. I’m not saying he doesn’t know basketball. I’m saying it was that poorly of a coached game that it looked like he didn’t know basketball. Obviously he knows basketball. But we did nothing to get them out of their comfort zone
You make a good point as I would have pressed or done more to get their 2 guys out of their rhythm . But let’s look at why Pike did this. First, he knew his guys exhausted themselves against Iowa the other night and did not have the legs for it. Second, which is what he must have been doing and he gambled and lost. He was thinking his defense was eventually going to show up and he did not think they were capable of executing a perfect game plan. Minnesota and more particularly , Willis (11-17) and Loewe( 8-14), not only hit tough shots but shots at the end of the 30 second shot clock. They hit between 6-10 shots with less than 5 on the clock and some at the buzzer . He did not think that would continue with 2 guys playing 40 minutes each . It turned out to be a gamble that he took and lost . So although I would have pressed or changed defenses to take them out of their rhythm , I am giving you an explaination for what Pike did. It didn’t work and it is frustrating that we could not capitalize to get to 2nd place. Pike has to figure out how to get out to faster starts on the road as Minnesota got out to a 17-5 lead that gave them confidence and hope. That needs to be fixed.
