I was the president of his fanclub, because similar to where we stand today, we don't have any relevant shooters or anyone to create their own shot. And Jones was the potential player that was the bridge after Harper, Mathis and Geo/Jacob departed.

I don't see any real difference in expectations for Gavin. Anyone with a pulse or can find his own shot, is a welcome addition. Gavin will be slotted properly next year where the defense will be hyperfocused on Ace, Dylan and whomever emerges as the 3rd option.

In terms of Noah missing Griffiths, I saw the same missed opportunity in the 2nd half too.
I thought you moved. I noticed you on the RAC screen.

I am president of the Mag fan club. Not going well right now.

Look at Mgbako at IU. A higher-rated recruit than Gavin on a team that possibly needs more outside shooting help than even RU.

Over 25 mins just twice in IU’s first 15 games, now at least 25 in his last five. It’s not unheard of to bring these guys along slowly

Thought he looked away more confident and comfortable out there. He's got a really nice looking shot. Just feel like one day things will just click for him.

He just looks rail thin. Needs strength and conditioning very badly. Not quick enough to be a 2 and not strong enough to be a 3.

Like the inbound curl play the ran for him, he looked very comfortable on his shots.
We have a nice play where The 5 screens down for him. I have seen it 4-5 times all year and we got a hoop from it today.

No idea why when he is in the game we dont see that more often. If defensed well The screener (Cliff) cuts to the basket and gets the ball how he needs to get it….on the move.

I am president of the Mag fan club. Not going well right now.

I was sitting with another prominent message board person today and his friends/family.

Mag is going to struggle when the game is sped up and it requires him to generate his own offense.

I have already stated my own thoughts on Mag, more than enough times. We will need two other offensive players to emerge and step forward to support/carry Mag on this roster the rest of this year and into next year. I am all for him stepping forward and taking more of an offensive role, but fans are going to be asking a lot there, against better coached teams.

Wide open miss from top of key was a killer, would have cut lead to two and prob lead to a TO

I think we are screwed if we are relying on Mag for offense.’ This is a very flawed roster.

We disagree, and that is OK. This is why our best chance ti win is keep the tempo down and win in the 60s.

Was freaking brutal watching us on offense in the 1st half though

Too much dribling. Too many bad shots. Vision not where it needs to be.

Team is also more cohesive with him on the bench. Not sure if he is too blame though.
yeah I see similar but he does create space and openings on offense. Thing is he settles for those mid range jumpers which are low grade shots and he shoots at 33%...not very efficient

Was the game so sped up today that he couldn’t do better than 0 points and 0 rebounds? No one’s expecting him to carry us every game, but 0 and 0, we can’t work with that.

Yeah I don’t even know if it’s “hero ball” per se. He gets himself good shots usually - he just doesn’t make them at a good %.

End result is the same tho
Thats my point...many times he get these wide open shots but I think the other team is doing that purposely. He should be looking to drive and dish more often and create offense

I am ready for a lineup of
A williams
Gavin
Hyatt
Mag
Clifff

Not sure how we could defend but i an tired of all 3 PG over dribbling and not looking for others.

That's not a short or long term lineup.

If we are thinking beyond this season, any lineup should have.

Simpson/Davis
Griffiths (he was finally slotted today as a SG on some sets)
Hyatt
Mag/Jeremiah Williams
Cliff

Once next year rolls around, insert Ace Bailey for Hyatt's shot attempts and Dylan at the other guard position and let Mag and/or Williams become the defensive stopper.

Sommerville steps in for Cliff and see what develops the rest of this season with Woolfolk.

Hero ball comment is a bunch of crap. Simpson had three assists and three rebounds and eight points. A solid game. JMike had the best game of his career and had all of one more assist than Simpson. So stop with the hero ball commentary. Simpson is quick enough that he does get himself open. He’s still only a sophomore. Geeze!

I liked how Gavin annoyed Loyer. Even more impressive was that Morton couldn’t stick with Gavin. Gavin was so close to breaking Morton’s ankles on separate two plays.
I like his confidence.

There isnt a single poster who doesnt see the offensive potential
Although some can see the potential in him here, many don't see the impact of what he can bring.
Without exception, he draws attention every time he is in the game. Watch how teams guard him as they want to know where he is all the time. He improves the spacing on offense whenever he is in the game.
He needs to improve on defense of course, but he can score in more ways then anyone on the team.
The game is played on both ends of the floor and although I love Pike, he doesn't seem to understand that.
We held a good team to 68 today but we lost by 8. We start every game in a hole with Gavin on the bench.
This team was never constructed to play suffocating non positional defense like some of our recent teams could.
The guards are too small to be switching all over the floor like we could when the lineup had a bunch of 6'6'' players that could guard multiple positions. This team needed to score more and that could only be done with a more solid commitment to Gavin as he is the only true 3 on the team and the only player with enough tools to score on in the mid teens on a consistent basis.
We do not get him very many easy shots but what we have seen is the ability to get off reasonably good shots even when he is guarded closely.
How many points would he score if we got him 6 or 7 open threes a game?
His defense is improving and I am willing to bet that some day he will be a pretty good defender.
He just needs the confidence of his coaches.

Big step in the right direction today. Kudos to Gavin for continuing to work and kudos to the staff for helping him get through the rough patch. Future is bright for him...

Was the game so sped up today that he couldn’t do better than 0 points and 0 rebounds? No one’s expecting him to carry us every game, but 0 and 0, we can’t work with that.

The simplest way to explain this is Purdue has 5 players that play Mags position that are more talented and skilled than Mag, so he's not going to have any advantages over anyone on the court.

And if he's reliant on being a spot up shooter and isn't a drive and score player off the dribble, points aren't going to be there. Add in those players I mentioned (Gillis, Furst, Colvin etc) and throw in Zach Edey and rebounds aren't going to be there.
