We could have very lost games to the Red Storm, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech last night. Sure, we do have defensive breakdowns, and poor free throw shooting at times and am I am concerned but I desperately want to see this team advance in the tournament.

Last night feels a lot like the GT game to me. I guess in a sort of way I'm proud they found a way to win....but I was more relieved last night after the game than I was proud.

And I hate sounding harsh or negative. Those who know me know that's not my style at all. But I think this team has it in them to be really special....so that's what makes it most difficult when I watch them play like they did last night or a few weeks back against GT.

I love this team's intangibles in late game situations, but last night was an aweful performance that they shouldn't be proud of. We completely mailed it in on the defensive end for 35 minutes, and only survived b/c Okafor / Winslow were so much bigger / stronger / athletic than their counterparts and Cook seemingly made over open look he got.

At least in the GT game our defensive efficiency wasn't embarrassing (though it wasn't good). Against Va Tech, it was horrific. As much as I'd love to say Va Tech was having a miracle night, reality is that they were getting wide open shots all over the place that even decent college players should be able to make.

Hell, I'm proud of them. Everyone knows that it wasn't a good performance on the defensive side of the ball, or at the ft line, but they clawed, fought, and hung in there at a hostile environment to pull out a win when it would have been easy enough to buckle. These guys have their shortcomings, but heart is not one of them.

Ditto. There isn't one person on this forum that at some time during the game or OT, didn't say well, that's it. Guys, be proud of your team, they just won't go away! Take the "W" and run.
Go Duke!!

I'm proud of the resolve. In the last few years, once the team got down there was no coming back. This year they seem to get even better when the pressure is on.

So I'm proud of the fact they did not just wilt. They fought.

That being said, I think more complete games will be needed from this point on as far as effort and fight goes.

I was thinking about posting something very similar to this last night. Are there troubling things I see? Of course. Do we need to make free throws? No doubt. Does our defense really need to kick it up a notch? Absolutely.

But the thing that I like is that in years past, we would have rolled over and died and had a VT court storming on our hands. Same thing with St. John's and UNC. But this team has got something that the others did not, so I am proud of them for winning these close games where the teams the last couple of years most definitely would have lost. And plus it was on the road! How many times have people talked about road games in college being so difficult?

Like I said, I'm not 100% thrilled with the win, but I'll take it.

Let me add one more thing here, we are young. To be this young, 4 out of our 8 scholarship players are freshman and three of those are starters! And we still find ways to win and never give up. That is probably the most impressive part. All of our guys believe that we can win a championship. I don't know if we will, but damn't I bet we sure will give it our best shot. And I don't see us quitting and laying down like we did against Mercer last year in the first round, or second round, whatever it is called now.

It helped that VT cooled off from three point range near the end of the game. For some reason teams shoot like the Harlem globetrotters when they play Duke then can't shoot worth a darn against anyone else. I love this teams fight and resilience.
