Providence vs Washington thoughts?

I don’t know a thing about the Washington program, they are ranked high but as we all know that only means so much when competing against some CCL teams. Curious about anyone’s thoughts on this game. I feel Provi has been underrated for the most part this season.

Washington lost to ND, a lower level CCL program. PC more talented and should win.

That said, PC often plays up and down to their opponent's levels. The head coach gets talent in the door, but the on field direction always seems interesting. He was on the Herald News social media sites this weekend questioning their fairly benign headline about the PC win.

In isolation, not a good look, but not a huge deal. But the 4A 2022 title game included a moment where the same head coach came onto the field and lost his cool. His team then went on to implode after seemingly losing their cool on the field.

I had thought we had grown past that, but the fact that he had time to process whether to hit submit on a social media site and decided to proceed anyway tells me he may still make questionable decisions when confronted with less than desirable calls and things on the field.

A SF-PC final would be an interesting rematch. Two programs that have plenty of talent. Whoever stays out of their own way will win.

In short, Washington may be able to keep it close, but it would require multiple PC mishaps for them to pull out the win

All.... Why not here is another one (yes fwiw) Massey projection. PC 28 Washington 21. (65%) Always difficult to win at PC. Do they still have that small made grotto with the statue of the Virgin Mary at the stadium? Very nice.... Ratsy

It would be interesting as they have had some funs games going back to the 4A semi-final and I think they are pretty evenly matched.
But a lot of games before that is happening.

Interesting as I have heard from more than one PC parent that they weren’t happy with the way the program was being run over there. No denying that Plantz is getting kids in the building though and winning games. He is giving Brian Kelly vibes…

I see PC handling Washington no problem and I think they have the best chance of winning 5A out of the remaining teams.

Saw them against JCA. They got down 30-7, but only lost 30-27 after recovering 2 onside kicks. His teams will battle to the end.

Interesting stuff in this thread about the head coach. This is his fourth year as HC, so all the student/athletes were brought in under his regime. I know they've had a fair amount of transfers out in the last year, which would tend to support the things you heard about some parents not being happy.

Agree with they have the best chance. SF is the only team I’m concerned with as they beat PC earlier in the season. Not sure what other parents have said but from my standpoint I’ve heard great things about Plantz. Just a tough league all around in the CCL, but I do feel Provi has been underranked all season

They have been ranked near the top of the 5A poll all year by Edgy and the AP. Not sure how that is under ranked.

I live in the area. Washington has a nice team. Their RB...freeman is a nice back. he makes them go. Tough kid....fast and runs hard. They have a nice Wideout....#4 i think. he can make plays. QB is ok...young and makes mistakes at times. Solid D. With all that said...they have nothing PC hasnt seen seen and dealt with every week. PC by 2 touchdowns i would think.

5A is the most wide-open class of the eight classes. The respect for the CCL/ESCC has reached mythical proportions, but occasionally other conferences do produce state champions in football. With the exception of King, all of the other seven quarterfinalists have a reasonable chance of winning the 5A championship. The Orange Division of the CCL/ESCC, in which Providence plays, is probably the fourth best of the six divisions; although admittedly the crossover wins against Carmel and Loyola were impressive. I would rank the remaining eight teams as follows:

1. St. Francis (8-3)
2. Cary-Grove (9-2)
3. Providence (8-3)
4. Washington (10-1)

5. Belvidere North (11-0)
6. Peoria (9-2)

7. Oak Forest (10-1)

8. King (7-4)

The main point, though, is that the difference in ability between the top four teams is fairly small.

It's the top 3 only. No one else will even make it to State.

I'll add, FWIW SF has had the toughest road to quarters. Both PR and MP are quarterfinal quality teams and now they get a much more favorable opponent in Quarters than anyone else.

That I get. PC just never cracked the top 25 (entire state/all classes) all season and was usually well into the 30’s for the state as a whole. I was just taken back a little after wins vs Carmel and Loyola didn’t bump them much higher. But there were a lot of real good teams in the top 25 so I get that as well.

SF/PC/Fen/SR all kind of in the same boat for me. Tough to rank as they seem to beat up on each other or other CCL teams.

Not trying to take anything away from your win over CC, but CC 1st half of the season was a much different team than CC second half of the season. It shocked me when they lost last week. I’m wondering if the rain put the brakes on their offense. PC is a good team though.

Fenwick is the CCL team that is most under ranked in my opinion and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they represented 6A north in the championship. They went toe to toe with MC, CC, and Montini. Those Thies boys are NASTY. Don’t sleep on the Friars.

Agreed. Fenwick is good and very physical. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them vs ESL.
