Alumni Board of Trustees candidates to participate in March 15 forum | Penn State University (psu.edu)

Four incumbents:
The three existing Alumni-Elected - Anthony Lubrano, Jay Paterno, and Alice Pope - plus Randy Houston (Houston was on the BOT the last two years - holding an "ex-officio" seat as the immediate past president of the Alumni Association). Houston's term as the immediate past president of the AA is over, and he is now running for a seat as an elected member.

The three Penn State Forward candidates (Ali Krieger, Melinda Kuritzky, and Uma Moriarity)

And Kevin Clarey, a class of 1989 Alum. I know he was a fraternity member while at PSU - but I don't see any readily available social media pages, and will be trying to find out more.

Not being a smart *** here, but if you guys think the candidates are weak and you have a handle on things….consider running. Sitting back and criticizing without action helps nothing.

Likewise I think there's a tendency to conflate communication/transparency with competence/performance. The 2023 slate of alumni elected trustees running for re-election is among our strongest and absolutely worthy of your consideration. JMO.

Yeah, because Barry and Anthony have made ANY change! Not voting for either one this year. If I even vote

Good points.

That said, if one is going to assume a position of serving as a proxy for various stakeholders (which is, at its essence, the role/duty of any member of a governance board), one of the first and fundamental requisites is to engage in honest and transparent and substantive communication with those stakeholders.

I’m not one that is routinely bitching and moaning about the BOT on a sports message board. As I said before, those complaining should throw their name in the mix if they have all the answers. The ones on the ballot went through the effort and proper channels to get their name on the ballot. Calling them weak and complaining from a distance doesn’t accomplish anything. Put up or shut up. Otherwise, maybe we could keep it to sports.

Sorry. You caught me on a bad day. I’m short fused and unfiltered today for some reason. My responses are in no way meant to be taken personally. I’m just tired of reading and hearing the constant complaining about the BOT by some. My fault for reading it I guess?

I get what you’re saying, but your post makes me wonder: is this really a football message board? I’d hazard to say no. And yes. But mostly no since the majority of threads are about things other than football. Hence the cool “AKB” moniker.

Actually, under the current system, voting, and by extension running, helps nothing either.
And so, let me say this ... "If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve. However, I reserve the right to criticize the hell out of those who do. "

Not sure but this all is getting past the point of embarrassing. How long before ESPiN picks it up? I believe Dinich just left campus a day or 2 ago.

I guess I missed this the first time around. Barry is the only one who puts work and effort into understanding the topics that are being voted on, and when he opposes he explains his reasons. This is a far cry from just voting no.

That wasn’t my point in the slightest. My point was that Barry is often alone in voting no and therefore alone in going against the grain in an attempt to effect change. As such, nothing changes.

Even if there is a unified approach among the alumni-elected trustees on an issue, they amount to just nine votes. They never are able to gain the support of a board majority to vote a measure (proposed expenditure) down. That is not a reflection on the alumni-elected trustees. It is a reflection on the larger board that does not want to take a stand to change how the university operates. Again, nothing changes.

My comment had nothing to do with the amount of work ahead of and after casting a vote that any of the trustees do or do not do. Anyone paying attention sees that Barry puts in the time to understand the issues and the pros and cons. And he also puts in the time to explain the reasons behind his voting decisions. It is refreshing.
