With what we already know about who is staying and who CMC is bringing with him, we’re in really good shape!
Then, add whatever we can pick up in the portal and we will be more than fine !
It’s so interesting to watch this Indiana team. They were a team of castoffs and lower level guys that are playing at the highest level imaginable. Not saying it’s the same situation at all, but we should not doubt CMC’s assessment of his own former Iowa State players that he brings over to Happy Valley.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Campbell can convince Grunk to learn offense next year and then have a shot at playoffs for his jr/sr years.
Black has started 30 of the 36 games he has been at ISU. He didn't redshirt, he was starting as a true freshman. He would have been the first olineman at ISU to be a 4 years starter in the last 15 years.
You'd have to think PSU has the inside track with him, you'd also have to think some big NIL teams are going to throw money at him.

With Matt Campbell off to coach Penn State, there’s been a mass exodus of players who have already entered the transfer portal from Iowa State.
I'd love it too, but it's not happening. Only way is if they convince Grunk with lots of $$$. It would be one thing if he said he was still deciding but once you commit to the portal you are virtually always gone.
Don't count out the ISU transfers. I don't think they want to stand on the sidelines.
That’s really sad news. I wish him the best. We’ll likely get the QB from Iowa State Rocco Becht. And we’ll likely (hopefully) return Smolik as well. But losing Grunkemeyer is a big loss.
I’m pretty sure Smolik was said to be leaving long before the portal even opened.

Good point, their safety is a stud, but he has not committed to any program yet. Also, the Wisconsin kid from Southern Columbia would be a terrific addition.
I think we'll be fine, and after the portal is over, we go head-to-head with Franklin in the recruting battles. I'm looking forward to that.
I think Campbell has other guys lined up--I'd be shocked if Smolik returns. Of course, I would have been shocked if Grunk returned so...
Most of the PSU secondary is remaining intact.
Dixson and Joseph are crucial. Have not heard yet from Belgrave Shorter, Tracey, Vaboue Toure, Kenny Woseley, or Kolin Dinkins. Work to be done yet.
Secondary looks elite. If Campbell stays, then LB room looks good on paper too.
