Lilledahl and Barr should both move up in the rankings this week. I wonder if Davis gets some respect for keeping it close.

No. 23 Penn State redshirt freshman Joshua Barr has upset No. 6 Michael Beard. And, he did so decisively. The Nittany Lion scored an 11-3 major decision. It's safe to say few, if anyone, saw that kind of a result coming. Penn State leads Lehigh 31-3 with one bout to go.

The thrill of victory and the agony of reading about it online.*

*Credit to Tim Beidel of the old pennstatehoops.com site

I think the origin of that comment is from Philadelphia Phillies great Mike Schmidt. In 1981, at a Philadelphia sportswriters banquet, he said:

"Philadelphia is the only city where you can experience the thrill of victory and the agony of reading about it the next day."

Interestingly, I picked Barr in the KYPSW competition for this dual. But, I thought I was stretching things a big picking him to win by DEC. No way did I see him winning by MAJ.

Was in attendance today, good turnout.

Re: Starocci - he finished on top for the final whistle and pushed the other dudes face into the mat with his whole weight while getting up.

Was obviously intentional, and in very bad taste. He's got a great WWE career ahead of him.

Speaking as a ref, that action should cost a wrestler every single time it happens. That action gets mentioned pretty much every year in the instructions, and most refs are on the lookout for it whenever there is the potential for it to take place.

As I've mentioned many times, the college wrestling refs are really elite refs. Most of them also ref high school wrestling, and worked their way up through the ranks to get to the college level. Plus, they are constantly getting evaluated. (I know the guy that is the main evaluator for the B1G and for the NCAA.) Evaluations are not an antagonistic process -- they are done to assist the ref in getting even better. The evaluators, who are all long-time refs, would not miss that type of action by a wrestler, and they certainly would not miss it if the college ref did not notice it, or not penalize it appropriately.

Barr looked good and the Beard gas tank (or lack of) issue showed up again.

Full match...

Man, it is so refreshing watching two good wrestling analysts outside of the PSU sphere. I am not that knowledgeable about the sport, but I learned a ton from these guys. I wish the BIG would hire them for their matches.

Maybe, and understood given he is up a weight class. But he's also not 100% and only lost 4-2 to a returning All-American who took 3rd at Nationals and beat Vito twice last year. That's not a bad result considering.
Staying close and beating a top ten guy are totally different. Let's see how he does against some more top ten guys.

If I were the GM of the PPL, the person in charge of twitter and their boss and his/her boss would be fired! Totally unnecessary, and from a business standpoint irresponsible.

Lehigh should be thinking of other venues for events that may attract larger numbers than their on campus facilities can handle.
