I think Nate Desmond is related. to the ciasulli's , from Easton . as. soon as. he gets. a takedown. , he throws. legs in. , and. looks. for. a turn. . can't. wait. to see. him. next year. . wow. .!
His mother is a Ciasulli all three of her brothers wrestled Division One.
His grandfather ran RedHawk Wrestling a youth club for years and is still listed as the Godfather of RedHawk on the website. I am a fan and absolutely love watching him compete.

Truer words were never posted. If any of those Midwest pokes could come close to competing with the Eastern bloc (mainly PA, but the surrounding states are no slouches either) in the style that WE ACTUALLY WRESTLE HERE IN THE USA they’d change their tune quickly and Lobell, Radar, and the like would start waxing poetically about turks, bow and arrows, and , yes, even the fine art of the ankle ride.

Meanwhile, they love neutral wrestling while conveniently ignoring that the most egregious and voluminous stalling in folk style comes in neutral. Especially, after the 3 point TD was instituted.
They also seem to forget, way too many guys from their areas don't shoot.

I was rewatching the PJ match - partly to see where he got dinged up and also to rewatch Catrabone’s last TD. I didn’t know why PJ was so flat-footed. Well, it was the perfect (bad) storm of PJ stepping forward with his left leg and, almost simultaneously, Catrabone stepping on that foot and pinning it to the floor as he attacked. Duke had no chance.
Loved seeing PJ immediately getting the lead back and sealing the deal. That and Desmond’s matches were fun

Yeah, Seth Ciasulli is Nate Desmond’s uncle and CTStall is right, Seth will probably do a match breakdown on his YouTube channel.

Don't know the rules as well as I once did, but I assumed Ragusin is bottom man and on his feet. Desmond is responsible for at least attempting to bring him down to the mat. I thought the call was a no brainer.
Fair enough. I was watching it at 4 am in my hotel room bathroom thanks to good ole insomnia, so as to not disturb my wife and kids, and just saw Desmond really trying to tell the ref he wasn't able to improve.

Now that Bushwood is back, he'll happily translate the rules for you.

It'll be wrong, lengthy, and unreadable with no paragraph breaks, but it's his specialty.

And this is one more reason pushing pace is so important (aside from all the other reasons).

If you wrestle a Will Lewan match and give up a freak takedown like that, you lose.

Harer isn't beating Bassett. Barely beat Music from McDevitt at State Duals.
I agree that Bassett is gonna win, and probably win comfortably, but I wouldn't use a 4-1 win over Music (former state finalist, Stanford commit) as evidence. Harer's MO is blowing out the nobodies and almost always wrestling close matches against good opponents. Last year he beat Herring and Baum both 1-0. He won 4 matches at Super 32 by 4-0, 5-0, or 5-1 scores (including Clinton Shepherd). This is what he does. He is not a pace pusher against better opponents.

IMO the better evidence is their 2021 PA Power match. It was 6-6 at one point, then Bassett poured it on and won 24-13. Granted, youth wrestling from 5 years ago. Both are better now. Harer's strategy will obviously be trying to shut down Bassett's pace. I don't see anything from his past 3 years to think he will.

I believe that's the 4th dual he's wrestled for PSU, which would be under the threshold. I believe he had 3 matches at Opens -- I don't recall if he wrestled unattached in them or not.
I believe all his open matches came at the Black Knight and would only count as 1 event (he gets 5 events not matches).. I haven’t checked back on his dual matches but if he wrestles a Friday and then 2 days later on a Sunday in the same weekend then this weekend of matches would only count as 1 despite wrestling 2 times as the NCAA counts the weekend as 1 event…

If I recall correctly he would still have 1 additional event before burning his shirt. Amine got it wrong… Cael has said that he is redshirting so there is no question at this time that Davis is the guy this year if he is healthy…

Desmond's matches:
- 11/23 = Black Knight Open (required to wrestle attached since 1st semester as true FR)
- 12/13 = Wyoming dual
- 12/20 = Stanford + ND State duals, counts as 1 competition date
- 2/6 = Michigan dual

His 5th competition date remains.

Might get it ... but VT's lineup will be strongest next year if he can cut down from 145 HS to 141 college. That way Collin Gaj can still make the lineup.
That's if Melvin doesn't reclassify and go 157. That's being discussed. With Henson back at 149 and Gaj RS

Went to college in the 80’s. Lived Center-West in PA. Went to college in Center-East. I called it “pop.” Classmates were mostly from East PA. They all called it “soda.” When I would call it “pop,” the response was always “pop is your dad.”
Born and raised in NW Ohio and we called it pop. Moved to NEPA as a teenager until late teens and we called it soda. Lived in several other places far and wide and settled in NE Ohio for past 30+ years. Now when I want something to drink I just say, “I’ll have a beer”.

Curious where in NW Ohio you grew up. I’m from and still in Archbold.
Group of us attended coaches clinic at Penn State and were walking around campus. We stop a student and ask where we could get a “pop”.
He chuckles and says - you’re not from around here are you. He proceeds to tell us where we could get a “soda”.
We make our sandwiches with buns also. 😄

Family farm/ homestead is in Montpelier where I was born, moved to W Toledo until about 13, then moved east. Still have plenty of family in NW OH. 'The farm’ has turned into a very nice B&B which our extended family returns to every year for the family reunion. We feast, have a corn roast, and tell stories and laugh until we cry. Everybody can take a good joke. It’s a great time.

I was born in Montpelier in 1961.
Linden Street until 1970 then to Archbold.
Is the farm on CR K, just west of SR 15?
I’ll try to message you.

Born and raised in the South hills near Pittsburgh, it was always 'Pop'. Moved to California in 1981, and everyone thought I was from Mars. They had never heard Pop before and I pretty much had never heard Soda, other than the combined Soda Pop.

Eventually it became generically Coke for many. No matter, as an adult, I rarely drink any of the stuff short of a Ginger Ale here and there and Root Beer with pizza for one reason or another. PA Pizza is something I miss the most, West Coast is big chains mostly, and they all suck.

At least he will usually cite the rule number. So you can read it for yourself. Assuming that is correct, of course.

Flashbacks to the dorms when people argued incessantly about soda vs pop, which really meant they had nothing else to talk about.

It seems that Catrabone gets better with every post. Pretty soon, people will be calling him the odds-on favorite to win it all.

Fact is, his best win this year is over #26 Buell, and he was teched by both Taylor and Cardenas.

I agree that he looked good on Friday and could reach the podium, but I think it is more about Duke making adjustments.

Early in the season, PJ was setting up much of his offense with the left-side underhook; starting with Iowa, wrestlers have been taking that away, and he has been a bit more hesitant.

He and the coaches will figure it out.

I think Bassett wins it but I am curious what Harer's strategy is. Bachmann was able to hold Bo the 3 points but he never really had a shot at winning it. Bo's biggest weakness is bottom, but that doesn't matter if he has the lead and Harer needs a TD to tie/win.

As someone who was born at Mount Nittany Medical Center back when it was Centre Community Hospital and went from Radio Park to Park Forrest to State College HS I cannot recall any locals using simply "Pop." Either just Soda, Coke or Pepsi, and perhaps the rare "Soda Pop" or "Sodi Pop" which always came off as something said just to be a little folksy.

Just my experience.

I grew up in Lock Haven too and never heard pop until I went to PSU and heard the Pittsburgh crowd use it. I only heard soda. I’m 62.
