As mentioned at the start of the Iowa '26 Match Thread, my daughter-in-law is overdue to give birth, and my wife and I are kind of on hold waiting for a text/call to tell us to drive out-of-town to my son's house, to take care of their older child. So, on the chance that I might get that text/call tonight or tomorrow morning, I'm setting thread up the night before.

Please use the thread for all pre-match, in-match, and post-match discussion for the 2026 PSU - Northwestern dual.

When:
January 18, 3:00 pm EST

Where:
Welsh-Ryan Arena, Evanston, IL

TV:
no TV for this match

Video Streaming:
Subscribers of BTN+ can watch a video stream of the match, on their TV, computer, or smart phone.

Audio Streaming:
The radio PBP, with Jeff Byers at the mic, will be streamed for free. The pre-match portion of the broadcast will begin at 2:40 pm EST, with the actual dual taking place at 3:00 pm EST. You can access the audio stream at:

gopsusports.com

Lion Vision

gopsusports.com

gopsusports.com

Once there, scroll down, find Wrestling: Northwestern, and press the arrow in the button to the left of that text.

PBP:
For the reason listed above, I'm pretty much out for PBP. If nature is a little slow, I might be around to contribute to the thread, but I'm reluctant to predict event that taking place. I haven't checked with @SlipperyPete or @GregPickel in advance. but I suspect one or more of them will also be available. Hopefully, we'll have the PBP covered. That said, we always encourage others to participate, and post thoughts about things that happen in the dual. And as always, a reminder that if you are doing PBP, please post the score of the match, as well as the team score of the dual, at the end of each match.

I'm guessing Cael ran their *** off yesterday and now wants them to make weight twice in 3 days, then wrestle tired

Plus, an 8-0 Big record is better than a 6-0 record for Big Ten seeding.

Maybe we see a few backups against Princeton.

I kind of doubt it. Maybe they give Duke a break for Sealey or SVN for Pierce but at the current moment I'm expecting the usual 10 to be on the mat.
Duke will definitely go. And all of the starters for the same reason: to make weight in a 3-day span. It's part of training for nationals. Everyone seems healthy after Iowa, so nobody needs the break.

IDK if this were planned or coincidental, but this year every 2-dual weekend involves travel. At Drexel/home vs Lehigh; at Iowa/at NW; home vs Indiana/at Maryland. Travel makes weight mgmt harder. If planned, that's genius-level training for nationals.

I agree, well thought out. The studs ranked #1 maybe can get a break but seeding at B1G's is important. Rocco doesn't wrestle Minny, McEnneny, so it would be nice for him to get the 1 seed and let Angelo wrestle McEnneny in the semis.

Given our staff’s apparent ability to make adjustments I hope he sees McEnelly before Cleveland.

Sure, let McEnelly beat Ferrari in the B10 semis. Let Welsh only have to face one of them at B10s.

Looking ahead to NCAA seeding: the top 4 seeds will be Welsh, Sinclair, Ferrari, and McEnelly in some order. Welsh beat Ferrari, does not face the other 2 in the regular season. Ferrari beat Sinclair. Sinclair beat McEnelly. Ferrari and McEnelly face on 1/30.

Welsh or Ferrari would be the 1 seed at nationals by winning B10s, with Ferrari on the other side with the B10 runner-up. If McEnelly wins B10s, then Sinclair gets the 1, and the B10 finalsts get the 2 and 3 seeds.

Per Byers, NW will forfeit @ 165. For whatever reason (he didn't specify), their wrestler did not weigh in.
