Looks like they're back now that they hired a good coach and got rid of that arrogant a-hole James Franklin.

Yeah. Campbell is a good coach too. But he has the advantage of standing on the shoulders of Franklin. Franklin was an imperfect coach but he built a hell of a roster every year.

Franklin is an ******* to be sure but to suggest he's not a good coach is idiotic.
Well, he wasn't a good enough coach to beat winless UCLA or NU at home at night in 2025, which is why he got his sorry *** fired. As others have pointed out, he could never win the big one.

I have no idea what "standing on the shoulders of Franklin" means, but Campbell was an excellent coach at Iowa State, and he brought his QB with him to PSU.

Campbell loses the big games too. Rocco might be about same as status quo qb. More of the same. The qb last year was a butt kicker too. I think we can play well vs the implants. Franklin and Campbell are both great coaches and recruiters. I just don’t see an upgrade. They’ll lose to ind osu ore mich and usc/probably ucla too most likely.

You might be right, except that Franklin is not a great coach, and he got fired for that reason.

I think he lost those games because he knew he was on his way out. After he lost the Oregon game at home.

In defense of Franklin, it turns out that he was the main obstacle in the rehabilitation of Joe Paterno.

Campbell is "embracing" Paterno's legacy

Penn State's Matt Campbell embracing Joe Paterno's legacy ahead of debut https://share.google/IC0EvkfEeFI3Jor9V
We are a bit ahead of ourselves. Penn State won a game against Marshall. Franklin started 2025 beating Nevada 46-11. I do t think we will know much about if they are really better until they play a competitive team.

Btw, Virginia Tech beat VMI 73-3.

We will see. Franklin could recruit but his coaching was meh. He is an improved Mike Locksley but Locksley is not an *******.

Hey all - figured this might be an appropriate thread to ask some questions. We're heading up from NWI for the game and would love some parking/tailgating recs if possible. I'm coming with my 13yo son and we are sitting in 209. It's 99% gonna be a day trip for us - really looking forward to seeing the new stadium. Can't wait!

Official NU Game day info

It should be an awesome experience going to the new stadium on opening night. Unfortunately parking adjacent at the stadium adjacent lots are reserved for season ticket holders. Paying for parking through stubhub are non-University lots.

there will be on-campus parking lots available with shuttles. There will be some designated for tailgating. The other choice for tailgating will be new stadium tailgates (paying for food and drinks) which may not be bad. Since that is all new, no one can give you info on the experience.

unfortunately there is no info on the campus parking lots yet. With one more game at the temporary lakefront stadium, the University has not publish game day for the new stadium. But check back in about ten days.

Thanks for the response! Rooting for NW this year (except on 10/2). Cheers.

You can find parking on side streets with no restrictions if you don’t mind walking a few blocks. West of Ridge and just southeast of the golf course, for example. Also anything west of Green Bay Rd.

It should be obvious to anyone who has seen the previously posted link re: Evanston game day parking restrictions. The map is self-explanatory.
