Scuttlebutt I heard in Tulsa, was Howard will be back at 125 lb next year. Sunday morning, I was told Starrocci likely was not.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Shane Griffith was a portal candidate for a spot in the lineup if those two Olympic redshirt.

I think the spring freestyle tournaments will help Brooks and Starocci decide on what to do next fall.

I wonder if there are any international competitions Brooks and Starocci pursue this spring/summer/fall.

I suspect we'll see both at the U.S. Open event in Vegas on NFL Draft weekend at the end of April.

That would be great. I think they both auto qualify for world team trials by winning NCAAs. The US Open has been much watered down recently as many who have already qualified for team trials just skip the Open

Thanks Greg-hope US Open is televised!! Hope they use weight classes (10) used in WORLD competitons, not Olympic weights (6). Curious if members of NLWC (Taylor, Dake, etc) participate.

Ah, you're right about that. Let me do a bit more research on that. It's a good point.

USA Wrestling revamped the qualifying procedures. Eight wrestlers won world medals last year. Those eight have until mid-April to declare whether they will be accepting a spot in Final X. If so, there will not be world team trials at those weights, only the US Open with the winner getting the other spot. For the other two weights (61 and 125), one spot will go the US Open Champ and the other to the WTT winner.

Because Dake (74), Burroughs (79) and Taylor (86) likely will take their spots, Carter and Aaron will need to go to and win the Open to make Final X and thus have a shot to make the world team.

Lots of speculation out there that PSU lands Truax from Cal Poly for 184 and Brooks to 197. We will see.

If Starocci doesn’t make the world team based on the criteria listed above, does he return to man 174 one more time?

Question marks on Starroci and Brooks for the ORS. Maybe we get a transfer in at 197. All make sense, but there’s also a question mark about Kirkvliet’s knee that he obviously tweaked in the Championship bout against Parris. Hopefully nothing major there.

US Open in Vegas-draft weekend at the end of April-has U20 and Senior divisions in this free style wrestling. Anyone know which members from NLWC will be participating in seniors? Winner gets to World competition Thanks

Hopefully, with Kraft & Neeli in place we don't have another "Evan Wick" debacle.

Thanks @Fink26. I led Greg astray here. So, the men’s senior WTT will only have 2 brackets if all 8 medalists claim their Final X spot?

It was only a debacle to those that think an athletic department should be the one to determine what classes should be accepted by an academic department. I would hope that Bendapudi & Kraft are not those people.

Yeah, why would we be so presumptuous as to think a Wiscy grad & Cal Poly transfer shouldn't qualify here.

LOL. Just LOL.

He was NOT a Wisky grad. He was trying to transfer from Wisconsin to Penn State after several years and not all of his coursework at Wisconsin would directly transfer to the academic program at Penn State. It happens all the time with regular students trying to transfer from one university to another at that stage in their career.

That makes it wrong for Wick and for those students.

PSU has 200-, 300-, 400-, and 500-level independent study classes across most if not all majors. Wick should have been able to take those, maybe 1 per semester, to validate his non-transferrable education. Or been allowed to take a grad school-style comprehensive exam.

For the non-Wicks out there, this is a money grab wolf in academic integrity sheep's clothing. Repeated semesters aren't free.

It appears, from first hand knowledge, that PS is one of the most challenging Univ to transfer credits to - even for “regular” students. Seems like PS likes it that way 🤔

Dayton Fix at 133. John Smith reported out at OSU with Coleman Scott taking his place.

Just a rumor about Fix to liven up this thread. 😊

25 Howard.
33 Cannon.
41 Bartlett.
49 Van Ness.
57 Haines.
65 Facundo.
74 Starocci.
84 Truax.
97 Brooks.
285 Kerkvliet.

That is my gut feeling going into Big's next year.
Truax is already at 197. Don't think Brooks sucking much weight.

Ok. This is getting nuts with talent, but I’ll give it a whirl.

125 Howard
133 Nagao
141 Bartlett
149 SVN
157 Haines/Mesenbrink
165 Facundo/Haines/Mesenbrink
174 Starocci
184 Truax
197 Brooks
HWT Kerk

This is assuming no OLY RS. OLY RS by Starocci and Brooks creates some changes.
