I think you guys are crazy for being ok with Raiola transferring. If you’re trying for a top QB you might as well pay up for the guy that’s been familiar with Holgerson.

If Rhule is gonna go with Lateef, Nebraska isn’t going to get a good QB addition.

Rhule is so behind the sticks with this roster that he almost needs to suck up a bad 2026 season and prepare for 2027. Obviously, the fans/university won’t allow that to happen. Thinking more about it, his high school recruiting class really doesn’t set him up well for that either.

It is going to be a bad year next season. What is all this “he needs to suck up a bad 2026 season” Matt is going to coach the Huskers to bad 2026 and 2027 seasons. The 2025 season just may turn out to be the high water mark of Matt Rhule's time as the Husker head coach.

No worry on a bad 2026. Look at the schedule. Its going to happen whether our head salesman wants it to or not.

We will be 500 at best. Lucky to make a bowl game.

Agree. He is not getting better. He is when he is as a coach. Great guy.

NIL is not the problem. And the players deserve a piece of the hundreds of $billions generated by college football.
The problem is NIL combined with a too wide open transfer policy. That creates an open market that is an old West, lawless, free for all that any moron could have seen coming.
I would support an idea I saw floated by some politician the other day. Allow players to transfer without any strings attached one time. But after that, if a player wants to transfer again he needs to sit out a year, like in the old days.

100% agree. let them get paid but set some structure so rosters can have some consistency.

Yes. Consistency and some sanity. The idea behind NIL is sound. And in its initial form it was meant to give players a piece of the financial pie, but grounded in the economics of what a player was truly “worth” as a market commodity in the given market he played in. So a player for a team like Youngstown State would naturally get much less money than a player at Ohio State based simply on market demographics. It is a sane economic model with built in hydraulic brakes based on market forces and natural limits.

But as soon as we then got the completely wide open transfer portal, NIL morphed into a competitive bidding war with no natural brakes or reasonable upper limits. A team with a super rich sugar daddy now just buys a roster based on nothing more than how deep their pockets are. It is now out of control, is totally insane, and is ruining the sport.

Rhule is sometimes a bad decision maker.. that is not something easily fixable.

That said, we may not see it this game, but the new OL Coach hire should be a big improvement over time. Some of the other hires, we have to see how they go.

You're going to have some new coaches getting their feet wet for Nebraska the first time.

There should be some interesting storylines after the bowl game.

I think you have to let it run its course...sure everyone will have barf bags watching the rich buy NC's. but at least it's above table now and not just the sec, ohio state and usc...I would suggest full disclosure on how much is spent via IRS watchdogs, with federal prison implications for cheating....at that point then a free market will be establish where everything on the table can be judged by return on investment, free of corruption.

look how osha sustains it's self, not by tax payer but by fines..big fines for doing wrong. can you imaging how many NC's, we would have won during the 80's and 90's if it was a level playing feild? the only people that ever beat us was ncaa violation poster boys..so it good it's all ALMOST out in the open...as far as players leaving thats ok...don't let the door hit em where the good Lord split'em. this way you have guys around who want to be around, and can focus on the game of football.

Have guys around who want to be around? Not really. Not in the sense of “I really like it here at this school, in this city, with these coaches and fans”. Instead it is all about the money. They stay put because the money is better in one place rather than another. And the ones who are “happy” to stay, it is only because they have little monetary value on the open market.
Yes, having the NIL, as I said, is sound. It is better than the old days of under the table cheating. And don’t be so certain that dear ol’ Nebraska U was squeaky clean back in the day either. But the totally open transfer portal is a huge problem when combined with NIL. I disagree with you that it will all just magically work out over time. Because instead of working out it may just ruin the whole thing.

And yet Iowa paid for Gronowski. His picture pops up on Wiki if you Google the word winner. Smartest think Kirk has done maybe in his entire career. He was “close” this year.

Lol at Cruz actling like the authority on NIL. Or that he can do anything about it.
He’s listening to Sark and there’s enough constituent concern about it that something could get passed. Tuberville is bothered by it. I don’t think Trump cares about it. Any politician from a football crazy state would be a fool to ignore the issue. The obvious problem is that voters in NY and California don’t care. Pretty tough to pass anything.

The castration of the NCAA by the courts was unfortunate for the future of college football IMO. Yeah, a couple hundred guys are making a bunch of money via the portal. Maybe a thousand more are getting paid a little more than the cost of attendance. Unfortunately their teammates get little or nothing and I believe it will end up killing scholarship football programs at lower levels. I actually have a bigger problem with what the playoff is doing.

..cannot imagine there is a damn thing a rich old GOP politiciian can do about this... and I think its political suicide to try. Most athletes making the big bucks are minority, you really want to die on a hill trying to keep them from getting what their worth in the free market? It's idiotic. Gov't needs to get out of the way and let colleges and the NCAA handle it. I wouldn't like it if some old rich politician tried to tell me what I can make, and i'd vote against him if he tried.

The masses are largely envious of the top earners. Politicians would lose a few hundred votes by limiting NIL MAYBE. I think it’s a non-issue for 99% of the population. That being the case, I don’t think there’s enough political push to get anything done. People upset with NIL and the portal don’t have paid lobbyists.

And last year at this time, people were falling on themselves praising Butler as the DC and Jones as a can’t miss born and bred Nebraska kid. Things get exposed over time, consistency is key.
