i find the current format of college football to be kind of boring, the pay to win stuff isn't exciting. it's basically a phone game at this point.

I noticed that some colorado player died. but lucky for them, with the current landscape of college football you can just go out and buy a new player.

has there ever been an easier time to recruit? with the format being pay to win, just buy a new guy, issue solved.

Some dude died - damn that sucks. Rhule sucks at paying players. I think some guys jus view it as a job now and don’t care if they win or lose as long as they get paid.

One thing I did not see coming was how much recruiting excitement would be killed with the NIL and the portal era. They're really isn't a player out there of any kind that would get me excited if he signed with nebraska , unless I saw him actually suit up and play a game, and then I would just assume he's leaving at the end of the season... I mean , I don't think i'm gonna stop being a college football fan... But it is definitely changed for me and not for the better.

This is how I feel now too. Which is why it is very hard for me to get excited about our 2027 recruiting class. Because more than half of those recruits could very easily get offered more money from someone else and poached from our list. Basically, we are now reduced to looking around at the end of the season and seeing "who is left?" Then you hit the portal for replacements. It really is becoming all about the money and NU does not have enough of it to buy the truly elite players. And you cannot even fall back on developing good players since as soon as they get good, as you point out, they get offered more money somewhere else and leave.

It is the end of college athletics as we know it.. The dude that quit USC during the 2nd half of Nebraska's game on Saturday is a 26 year old "grad student" that has been with four schools and his "handlers" are preparing to petition the NCAA for him to transfer to another school for next season.

I've basically given up on NU football. Whatever thing(s) made college football great are rapidly vanishing, if not already gone, into the portal. I don't identify with it, I can't relate to it, and the product on the field - with all the money being thrown around - is abysmal. (don't buy Shat Stool's sob stories to the contrary, with these resources a halfway decent coach could win a game against a ranked opponent once in their lifetime)

I agree the new style of recruiting has killed a lot of my love for CF. But we are seeing this through a Husker fans eyes.

If Rhule is tossed n a year or two -Right now I try and think "What will the new Nebraska coach and his staff say about how we (mis)handled NIL and the portal under Rhule?" You and I don't have enough inside scoop to know how NIL is being managed. But it sure feels like our staff is screwing a lot of this up (forget about coaching for a minute - just NIL).

It feels like other schools seem to be managing NIL and the portal better without being one of those elite NIL slush fund schools like Ohio State and Texas.

I think we can read between the lines.

The proverbial "boosters of substance" know that Rhule and Dannen....ain't it. Hence, the money that might've gone to recruiting is being held in reserve, at least to some extent. They know a buyout is coming, and they let Dannen hitch his wagon to that turd Matt the Hat via the extension. Both are gone by November '27 at the latest.

Either that, or Husker football is suffering the longest, most protracted death ever. Either is just as likely.

It's an awful system. There is no NIL cap, so the rich WILL get richer.

If you look at all the big players in college football, we aren't. Small state and who are the boosters? WB doesn't give a ****.

Warren Buffet has lived about 20 years too long.

But I have no earthly idea what the answer is. I mean, I guess it's the athletic department and NIL personnel's job to locate and develop boosters. It seems to me a **** ton of money runs through this program annually, no matter the putrid nature of the on-field results. Figure out how to divert some of that.

Might as well change their name to the Nebraska leftovers. Replace the Skinny N helmet logo with the Hamburger Helper puppet.

Yeah I try not to pay attention to recruiting or players at all anymore. I just turned on Saturdays and see what the product looks like. It's really the only way I can enjoy any game nowadays.

It is different now that's for sure!! I'm kind of with ya, and I'm a lot quicker to turn off the TV and go mow the yard when things aren't going well, than I was prior to the portal era.

It seems the portal is changing as well. The battle cry recently has been to just "hit the portal" and fill the holes. That looks good on paper but there are at least two problems with that thought. The assumption is that there are going to be good players for the position of need in the portal. It seems they are often formerly highly rated and played some, even started a few games but not the immediate starter some are looking for. There are always the lower division schools that produce some as well and they are difficult to project. If a kid is a starter at a decent to good school, that school is going to pay them well just to keep them if they can. They don't want to go out onto the market and start all over again at whatever position.

Makes me wonder about high school recruits, will they become like JUCO kids were? Nebraska had some select JUCO kids that did well in the day but it seems to be much more rare these days. K-State is loading up on JUCO kids anymore.
