You guys will be ok. Coach Painter doesn't try to win the exhibitions. Well, kind of. He uses the exhibition games to tinker with lineups and test defenses. I'm sure he wants to win but he doesn't emphasize that.

In Edey's senior year we played Arkansas (I think they were ranked #14) at Arkansas in an exhibition charity game. Painter spent the entire game tweaking lineups and defenses and was quoted as saying he never looked at the scoreboard. Edey only played 24 minutes (he averaged like 32 a game for the season).

Purdue fans were confused by the lineups because they were CRAZY. Of course Arkansas fans were ecstatic and went out in the world beating their chests about the victory and touting their upcoming season. Then the gay love triangle thing came to light and Arkansas' season went down the tubes.
I’m sure Pope will tinker as well, but you know us here in BBN, we hate it when we lose in the Blue-White Game! LOL!

Literally no downside. You win, you feel good about beating other top teams when it counts. You lose, you got to measure yourself against a top team and it doesn’t count. Still waaaay more exciting than any exhibition and might even sell out Rupp. Weather might still be ok too.

Love this, this helps a lot more than playing clarion or Kentucky state
Does it? How? Not disagreeing, just curious how you see the benefits of it. I’ve run this level before, I’m not setting you up for discourse, just respect your opinion a bit.

How does playing the number 1 team in the nation not help you?

The 1997 game was in December, Tubby's first year.
As a first year student at Purdue, I wore full UK gear around campus that day. Wouldn't you know it, I happened to pass Brad Miller. Just looked at me. Then me and a buddy drove up to Chicago to watch the game that night.

I wonder if these high profile exhibitions would be a way to free up some scheduling flexibility, by giving the Ath Dept another money making home game. Really more than anything I’d like to get in that Players Era tournament.
Usually some schools donate the revenue from exhibitions to some big time charity. I think that is what Michigan State did with the revenue in their TN exhibition a couple years back. We may be doing the same, not sure though.

It will be a tough matchup early on. Most of those guys have been playing together for a while.

Smith, Kaufman-Renn, and Loyer are all double digit scorers.

They add Murphy from the portal who was double digit scorer last season.

Jacobsen and Cluff will provide an early challenge for our bigs.

PG Lowe << Smith
SG Oweh > Cox
SF Aberdeen < Loyer
PF Dioubate << Kaufman-Renn
C Garrison > Jacobsen

I highly doubt we see Quaintance that early.
Wouldn't you have Aberdeen at the 2g and Oweh at sf?
I would take Aberdeen and Oweh over Cox and Loyer.

2 and 3 are interchangeable. Both are good defenders. I put the slightly taller Aberdeen on Loyer and Oweh on the smaller Cox.

I agree, I think Memorial with only students would be a great idea.
Sure, but this will no doubt be at Rupp and part of the season ticket package (just like previous exhibition games). UK is not going to lose out on the money generated by a game at Rupp. At least this one will be interesting for the season ticket holders, and they will also likely sell out the rest of the upper level tickets due to the marquee opponent.

This is awesome. While it doesn’t count, it adds a huge level of excitement. Can’t wait for basketball to get here!
Exhibition? The winner will kick themselves that it doesn't count in too 10 wins and strength of schedule.

YouTube alone has helped me watch UK games

ATDHE.net used to be the PORTAL for world wide sports
Last I checked their URL opened to a "Homeland Security Seizure" notice

UK / UP series linked below
I used the hell out of that site, First Row Sports and NFL Reddit Streams to watch the Bengals when I used to live out of the market.

Thrilled to see Pope doing something different for Kentucky Basketball and playing marquee opponents in an exhibition game.

I totally agree after reading the new rules on scrimmages. It appears we can have two of these games which definitely enhances the season ticket package. Also, we can have two off campus exhibition blue/white games, that would be a great opportunity to take those on the road to other parts of the state.
