Kentucky routed Purdue yesterday. Kentucky was much more athletic. Purdue could not defend their backcourt. I watched the game on my phone without sound on a flight to Dallas, so I could not name players, only that Purdue could not handle Kentucky's quickness

We match up well with Purdue. I think we will be competitive in almost every game. We will have many chances at good wins

Purdue has the problem of not being particualry athletic for a #1 team. That's why a lot of optimism from their fan base that they could go 18-2 or 17-3 in conference is, IMO, exageratted. I mean, good chance they'll win the conference, but probably more at 15-5.

Purdue is very skilled. But athleticism can make up for the gap in skill on any given night when the shots are not falling so easily.

As pointed out in a different thread, ESPN has him #1 in the country, which is absurd. The #2 guy put up 30 points and 7 boards in their exhibition (loss) at Nebraska.....

I expect at least a couple of the freshmen will pass him up as the the season progressses but I get not having them higher to start the season. JT Toppin from Texas Tech, though, should be in front of him.

I think depending on the B1G they could be middle of the pack. Fletcher Loyer is average and Kaufman-Renn disappears for spurts. Do they have a highly skilled 7’4” guy who doesn’t miss free throws?

Not really - they cover with regularity? Why?
I do think Loyer is a weak link against more athletic and physical wings. They added a great rebounding center to free up Kaufmann-Renn but I am surprised they didn’t try to get a more athletic wing, especially after Colvin transferred. There may be somebody on their roster that I am missing but I don’t know if you can win a national championship with Loyer playing 30 minutes.

You could make a lot of money if they end up middle of the pack in the B1G. I was thinking win total versus individual games.

If Purdue is middle of the pack, Painter goes the way of James Franklin.

Loyer gets a bad rap because he looks like Herbie the Wanna be Dentist on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. However, he is an excellent shooter. Leave him open at your own peril.

Purdue is loaded everywhere! If the bar is the Natty, then they’ll probably be disappointed. I can’t see anyway short of catastrophic injury that they slip to middle of B1G. I see a 1 or 2 seed in the tourney. Purdue is still primarily a home grown program with fewer transfers than the Michigans, UCLA’s, Illinois and Indiana’s of the world. This should help continuity.

He is a very good shooter. But he’s not a good defender and has trouble creating his own shot. He struggles against longer, more athletic wings. I think he is a weak link in trying to win a national championship.
