When Wisconsin lost to Providence in the Gavitt Games at home, Davis didn't play.....Providence is now all the way up to #13 in the AP Poll.....
When Illinois lost at Marquette with like 26 turnovers in the Gavitt Games, Kofi Cockburn didn't play.
I could argue Davis, Cockburn and Iowa Soph Forward Keegan Murray (a low 3* recruit) are all 1st team B1G players.
Probably best to not act silly about how the Big East is drastically better and the B1G is down this year, off of a couple of random week 1 matchups.
Purdue has great concepts and Painter is a good coach, but Purdue doesn't have a reliable point guard and Painter did such a poor coaching job IMO, by not playing some of his more athletic wings against RU and again against Davis last night.
When RHJ cooks you for 30 points and Davis starts heating up, Painter played his traditional defense and Davis ran wild....can't allow Davis open looks and not force others to beat you.
No PG and no wing stopper on defense are going to be major problems for Purdue truly reaching the Final Four......Painter will need to figure that out, because Ivey might be the one player who can carry Purdue to a Final Four and he is absolutely playing his last year of college basketball before landing in the Lottery.
Painter should just give Ivey the ball as the PG, sit Eric Hunter and Aaron Thompson and let Ivey dictate to the defense as the PG.....bring Brandon Newman or Stefanovic next to him as his SG and go pick and roll with Ivey and Trevion Williams, which would draw fouls and open up shooting space.......running a traditional offense with unique players like Edey, Williams and especially Ivey, is bad coaching.......just my opinion......
