On the Big 12 conference site it lists WV as the the 3rd place finisher in the conference standing, ahead of all the other 3 teams with identical league records, but we are a 6th seed in the tournament. This doesn't make any sense. Also, Oklahoma who beat us twice should have finished ahead of us in the standings in stead of 4th. How can you finish 3rd in the standings and be the 6th place tournament team? What am I missing in this? Can anyone explain this?

9-9 is 4 way tie. The listing you see is in order of overall record...WVU 21-10, Oklahoma 19-12, Texas 19-12, Texas Tech 18-13.

A tie breaker was used based on head to head of the group of 4 teams tied as a means to set seeding for tournament.

For seeding group of 4 W/L
OU 4-2
Texas 3-3
Texas Tech 3-3
WVU 2-4

Thanks for the info. Many of us had that same question.

Thanks WVUAllen for the explanation. I suspected they were calculating the standings and the tournament seeds by a different method, but I don't know why they would not use the same method for both.

It's a puzzlement. But anything that keeps Baylor or Kansas away from WVU till the semifinals is fine with me. Give Huggins Heroes a chance to get revved up before the Big Boys tip off against them. Hit the Sooners with the boomers!!!

Only 1 team has comfortably handled the Mountaineers during both of their contests and it wasn't Kansas or Baylor.

WVU matches better with Kansas than Oklahoma. They are not a favorable match up for us. We have nobody that can guard Doolittle. Which really opens the gate for Reaves and Manek. When all of those 3 are clicking at the same time, you might as well prepare for your 1st round NCAA game.

That's my point. I was responding to the famed journalist's point "anything that keeps Baylor and Kansas away from WVU till the semifinal..." OU is the only team to comfortably win against the Mountaineers twice and is a bad draw for us in KC.

If you tremble and whimper before you even play a team, ANY team, then you've lost before the opening tipoff. WVU destroyed Texas by 38, then lost to the Longhorns. So why can't WVU loses twice to Oklahoma, then destroy the Sooners? You have no faith in my alma mater and Huggins Heroes? Man up! Hell, woman up would be an improvement over your attitude! We are going to drive Oklahoma into the ground so badly that it will look like the Land Rush days again!!! Thumbs-up time. Not middle finger time!

You have Fools Gold in college basketball.

WVU/OU...

Could be if we see Huggins make the adjustments and go small.
OU is used to WVU playing them a certain way and Huggins switches it up

Like I have said I think playing Gabe as the big Haley, Matthews, McBride and then another of the guards (Knapper, McNeal or Harler) could be the best 5 on the floor for Oklahoma

Going to the cookie jar and someone putting a trap in it.
Matters if OU can make the adjustments after that
Doolittle is a very efficient player on offense.

I would not let Knapper see the floor the rest of the year. WVU went small against Baylor because their Bigs were in foul trouble. WVU then ran it's most officiant fast break of the season.

I have said since....last year against Iowa State that I thought WVU looked the best when Haley was the primary ball handler.

Regarding Knapper.
He is a decent defender and he can play off the ball.

Forgot to include Sherman as well.

Put Gabe on Doolittle and have Haley and Matthews guard the perimeter.

Gabe is probably your best one on one defender. Truthfully think WVU needs another like him even though he can't provide much on offense.

Knapper trips over his own feet and watched Baylor drive past him. He hasn't defended well in the last 12 games. While Knapper was in the game we went from a 28-24 lead to a 37-30 deficit.

Allen, I saw Knapper play all through his HS career, he was good defender and distributed the ball well. I don't know if it's a Soph. Slump or an injury at WVU, but he's been off his game most of this year.
