QB controversy

If Vedral starts on Saturday, plays well, and leads us to a win he will become the most popular man in Nebraska.
Obviously, however, when AMart recovers he will be our starter again.
So if that scenario plays out Frost will have a true quarterback controversy on his hands. And if AMart keeps his job, which he will, but continues to be a bit sketchy and we lose some games, how much heat will Frost get?
More importantly, would it also hurt team chemistry?

The coaches first and foremost need to be out in front of this.... If this come to fruition. This team has no leadership and the coaches will have to take charge if there is a controversy.

The mental makeup of this team I do not think would handle that very well. a QB controversy would be fine when we had O-lines from the pipeline days. But now the coaches would have to lead this team if the situation arises.

As always, we need to make decisions that put us in the best position to win each individual game. If that's Martinez or Vedral, I don't really care. Again...this team is not winning any championships this year. We just need to get used to winning again, regardless of which QB is at the helm. The rest will sort itself out, and in a couple years maybe we'll be relevant again.

Honestly I’m kind of hoping Vedral gets the nod on Saturday. I think AM has incredible physical attributes. But mentally right now he is indecisive and lacks confidence. When he went out on Saturday I actually found myself thinking “Vedral might be the better option at this point.” From his first snap he had command of the playbook and made instant decisions. What he lacks in physical ability he may more than make up for with his grasp of the playbook and level of confidence he has right now.

Right now Frost is very vocal and clear Adrian Martinez is our man, our QB. It would take something big or special to change that. I’ll just set back and let Frost do his thing. He’s always been great with QBs. He will know what to do.

I'm glad you brought it up and not me.

I think Scott's decision making has been affected by the athletic ability he sees in Martinez and Jurgens, and because of that, could be making decisions that hurt the team this year.

He has a nice long fat contract, so maybe he can afford to do that, but I think he should be focused on fielding the team of players with the best chance of success this year, rather than looking to some future, that may never come.

I absolutely believe there are guys on the team right now that would prefer Vedral just take over for the rest of the year.

What I hope happens!
-Vedral starts, looks decisive, and leads us to a win.
-Martinez follows his lead, plays more decisive and breaks his slump.
-Us fans can't figure out which QB is better!

I don't think there will be a QB controversy even if Vedral plays lights out.

As long as AM is the best QB in practice then he will be the starter. With Frost it's all about how you practice and he has said this a million times.

Hopefully between now and the next two and a half years we have a QB that can take the practice player crown away from AM. Because his best days as a game day QB look like they are behind him. Can't wait to eat massive crow if I'm wrong.

Yea, safe to say practice doesn't carry over to game day.

It was like Martinez was trying to be something he wasn’t in the beginning of the season (Trying new things) but the past few games he’s started getting out of that again. He’s fine, he’s a great QB that can kill teams when he’s decisive with his runs. He’s getting back to it and remember, he’s only a sophomore. We got plenty of time to get him to where he needs to be at as our starting QB. If not, eventually he will have a very talented McCaffrey or Smothers on his ***.

So glad you are not our head coach.

So wait....you can make criticisms but noone else can? Don't answer. IDGAF. You had no point in your response to me. Stop wasting your time. Tell your wife to stop calling me if it's not on a Thursday.

I think most people’s issues are the daggers you have out for Martinez. You’re being TOO bias. Maybe be a little more open minded. Outside the Martinez issue, you’re not a bad fan.

We all engage in criticisms. But yours, concerning Martinez, are over the top.

All I have been saying is he as detrimental to this team as he is a positive and needed to grow into the leader people thought he would be. And with people's own eyes they are seeing that on game day. yes, my solution would have been to have him ride pine to motivate him. Vedral isn't as talented, but will bring a different dimension to the run game and won't make mistakes that handcuff this team as a whole. He will also mask the other deficiencies of this offense better than expound on them. He'll throw the ball away or run instead of throwing a pic, sack or fumbling the ball. So play the guy who is less talented but isn't as error prone.

I never called Martinez a bum. Never questioned his talent. Just said he doesn't have "it". Hopefully he heals and turns into the QB he was promised and goes on and gets drafted in the NFL.

But **** the fans who can't be honest.

What if Martinez's side arm throws are better than Vedral's? I think that is more than a tiebreaker....

Are snaps a worse problem with Vedral? That one sailed right over his head.

Martinez corrals those type of snaps multiple times during the course of the game .. perhaps Vedral works with the second unit and is accustomed to the ball consistently arriving in the same zip code in which he happens to reside

Maybe the thread caption is only meant as "click bait" but there's zero controversy IMO just injury uncertainty.

this would be the biggest win far in the Frost era
if Vedral plays well in a win there will definitely be a lot of clucking

A couple weeks “off” should do Martinez some good. Hope he can sit back, watch, and continue to learn. Maybe catch some film and regroup. Dude has struggled plain and simple, at times it seems like he’s not taking what’s there, but instead trying to hi a homerun every at bat.

As was said in a different thread Vedral made one play that made a difference in the game. I don’t think he looked all that comfortable. He lined up and ran straight at the DLine 7 times and gained 33 yards. That isn’t a recipe for health or winning games.

Martinez will be the starter when he returns and there will be no controversy. IMHO.

The premise of my original post was what happens if Vedral plays well. If he doesn’t play any better than AMart, or worse, as you imply he might, then yeah, there won’t be a controversy. But if he does play well there will be. I hope AMart starts this Saturday actually so this ******** doesn’t happen.

My opinion is no person should ever feel 100% safe with their spot. If Vedral comes in and lights it up, looks good and gets the win. He should 100% be the guy until proven otherwise. It is the coaches job to go with guy who gives the best shot to win, not play favs.

disagree. I like the old rule that a player can’t lose his spot due to injury

I will also follow up with. I no way think this has anything to do with playing favs. Vedral has been with Frost since day 1 at UCF then followed Frost here.

Frost has to absolutely love Vedral. But he must be looking at intangibles with Martinez upside and limitations in what Vedral had week to week.

Im not dogging Vedral either. Im going to support whom ever the coaches see as the captian of this offense.

I would say their “favs” are the guys that give them the best chance to win.

Amart is not only a returning starter but was also voted captain by his teammates. I don't care how well Vedral does if he starts, Martinez is our starter as long as he is healthy. That may be right and it may be wrong, but it's reality.
