Qb recruiting

There are lots of threads on here talkin about who will start and the problems with the qb position.

one subject not discussed is type of qb. I think we all agree that with the oline we have had the past decade or so, we need a mobile web that can pass and throw. I think we have struck out on recruiting this type the last 5-8 years.
Remember Thorson came in with what, one year of hs experience and was known to have an arm but mobile enough.

hunter was supposed to be both but he couldn’t translate it to the field. Hilinski is a thrower not very mobile and Marty is mobile and only a fair thrower.

in many ways we need a step by arm with decent mobility to work behind this offensive line and to get even somewhat talented wide receivers.

We need 6’3 Dan persas every two years in recruiting. Sadly we haven’t had one of those ever.

That said, I’d much rather see NU recruit DUAL than PRO quarterbacks (recognizing that it’s a continuum and not a binary, as recruiting sites’ labels would imply.)

^ That's as long as the dual-threat is actually a threat in the passing game (many aren't).

Actually like the triple-threat QBS - this who can pass in the pocket, run and extend passing plays with his legs (Persa could do all 3).

The Cats had a 6'6" QB who could pass and run, but ended up hurting his passing shoulder.

Was good enough of an athlete to switch to wideout.

Would have succeeded Len Williams who was Persa before Persa.

How many years have we been watching the deficiencies at OL and WR, to the point these are now a given, and some mythic QB is the answer? How about fix all three? Where does that start?

Say what you will about Hunter, but none of our QBs have looked very good. I'm not saying he's the answer or that he isn't a basketcase against a pass rush, but the best QB play of the season thus far came against Michigan State.

Our offense blows.

At least our defense doesn't look like a complete disaster after we went back to Hank's system.

NU recruits dual threat QB’s. Always has. They just can’t land one. The good ones usually end up at the blue bloods.

Because every school in the country is trying to recruit the 6’3” Dan Persas.

A 6-3 Dan Persa has never existed. Dan Persa was perfect.

It has like it has turned into a Catch 22. If you do not have a successful passing game or a successful offense tough to recruit.....and if you dont recruit, tough to have a successful passing game or offense.....We need a break...and how do you recruit tight ends if you feel like you will never get a pass....this is turning into a tough situation . the chess equivalant would be poor pawn structure (oline) and playing w/o your queen.

Dan Persa was exceptional. They don't need to be that good. In a normal year, Peyton Ramsey - excellent but not Dan Persa, will do really well with this offense. But, yeah, we all agree that a mobile QB is important because we can't protect what was fka a 'traditional' drop back passer. For the very short term, Marty may still be that guy, although he didn't end up with much in terms of mobility yards on Saturday. Nevertheless, I never saw that purported Hunter mobility and clearly Hilinski doesn't have it. Marty gives us our best chance to win any of the next three.

No idea what Richardson or Sullivan have in terms of mobility, and, given the outlook for next year (bleak as mid-Feb Chicago weather), the coaches better find out or find someone soon.

Hunter's opportunity is past. I feel bad for him. I was really hoping for a season of redemption. For selfish reasons, obviously, but also because he must be a pretty decent kid or he wouldn't still be here 4 years (!!) later.

At this point, I'd say Sullivan gets playing time before Hunter. He's way down there.

Yeah… it’s kind of sad to watch him standing alone on the sidelines knowing full well he isn’t going into the game absent three or four injuries.

Including when he’s standing all by himself on the bench. He’s an amazing thrower of the football.
