Does it seem like he’s too laid-back? Does anyone know if he smokes a lot of pot?
I have no idea about the second part of your question haha, but we have had a strange run of QBs lately who kind of always seem like they just woke up... Adrian Martinez, Dylan Raiola, and TJ all seemed that way to me haha.

I'm looking forward to having a live wire out there in Colandrea, trying to make plays like a madman. I always prefer QBs like that - Joe Ganz, Taylor Martinez, Tommy Armstrong, etc. They might not always be the most pristine players, but they played with intensity and a sense of fun.

I do think TJ gets another chance, but not this year. I'm looking for DK to battle TJ for the #2 spot this year. I think DK wins that one too.
If Kaelin wins that battle, TJ takes his redshirt and is the first player putting his name in the portal.

Obviously he had help but a lot of it was EJ. He took a ton of snaps, was durable and a work ethic that wouldn’t stop.

Literally over half of his average yards per carry came after first contact. He ranked 8th in the country for forced missed tackles.

We had no deep threat passing game, we had a QB who was 0 threat to run - so yeah a lot of EJ.

He had help both in coaching and Oline because no one does it alone.
TMart had some very nice deep throws, but his ability to devastate in the run game put opposing safeties in conflict. Against DR, no such conflicts ever emerge. So for the better B1G teams, they took whatever beating they had to from EJ, and kept DRs throws in front of them. Hopefully Colandrea can change that equation a bit.

I never heard that and body didn’t like Dylan but jealous disdain was inevitable.

All we heard was how much the O line room loved Donovan until his departure was imminent. Right after Dayton de-committed, I started hearing that his guys hated him. The truth probably lies in the middle.
Rumor was that Dominic made demands that Dylan needed to be treated like a star. Supposedly they demanded Dylan lead the team out the tunnel.

Seems like a real nepo baby situation. Like Lebron and his kid.

so be it.. he's got a lot to prove, the 3 straight losses left a bad taste.

If I'm the coaching staff, I want to see what the other guy can do before I'm circling back to TJ.

Do we even run true RPO?

We give up some passing accuracy but gain some illusiveness. Dylan was zero threat on a zone read. The play may have multiple options of hand off, QB keep, throw or some type of reverse. With Dylan the D had to respect none of that. They did not have have anyone in the middle just in case, that was one of five times in the year he decided to take off

When I saw the video of Dylan talking about how he didn't play FB early on because he didn't like contact, told me all I needed to know.
yes, we run true RPO

Dana’s RPO game just features RBs and not QBs in the ‘R’ aspect

also you are correct that Dylan is a pusssy

Ya gotta admit, Matt The Hat gave us something to be intrigued with by signing Coleandra. He’s almost as athletic as Chubba. 😉

I think we're in better shape. Raiola will likely play in the NFL. Have you seen this years Draft? NFL teams are DESPERATE for a 6'3 225 pound QB.. I know there is some disdain from the fan base for DR (I am mixed). I just think outsider might say we were better last year because of Raiola (a lot is based on his last name, recruiting ranking, and stats that he padded with 4 yard throws).

Hard to compare the two rooms without seeing Colandrea play in the B10 yet. If I had to choose, I would pick this year's QB room. Dylan had way too much control on this team, down to the audibles IMO. Slow of foot. Excited to see plenty of mobility from our top 2 QB's. Wish we had a new QB coach, RB coach and an elite RB, but that's for another thread. lol
I remember watching the team pre-game early in the season last year and noticing that Dylan wasn't being embraced by the team. I wondered if teammates were just jealous of DR or if they just didn't like him? I remember hearing about how well liked Lateef was by his teammates-- and I read between the lines. As the season played out, I paid more attention to DR's antics.

Right, wrong or otherwise, getting new leadership at QB is going to help this team. That alone will make the team better. DR was a chemistry killer.

Dylan looked “coached” by a PR manager to me. I guess I didn’t pick up any negative interactions from the team but he never looked genuine when he did stuff such as trotting over to shake the hands of flyover pilots. I can only imagine what it would be like to be a 20 year old in that spotlight with that money being thrown at me. I’ll refrain from judging him too harshly. On a 100 member football team, there’s going to be guys who don’t like each other. Tommie Frazier had his detractors on his teams.

Holgorsen liking what he sees in Colandrea with his quick thinking and running ability and experience which is promising something we needed last year.

Lateef just needs a faster thought process he is still a young Qb with a lot of promise.

Getting another second to process from the O line would be helpful

I took that as being disingenuous. Seemed like he was always the first in line, standing out. That type of thing. It's nit picky stuff on my part but it's clear DR wasn't one of those guys that his teammates would do anything for.

So true. That was my initial reaction to what I was watching with the interactions (or lack thereof). Not everyone gets along. These below average football teammates are just jealous....

I have no issues with Dylan Raiola at all. I wish him all the best, and hope he does well at Oregon. He gave us his best.

At the moment, I am very happy with our QB room.

Can Coleandra be 2008 Joe Ganz? Ganz ran for 5 tds that year and threw for 3,500 yds in ‘08. Those numbers might be out of reach a bit this fall but who knows… Against this schedule, our run game needs to be locked in from the jump. I’d like to see Holgorsen‘s offense have a revival year.

That might be a good comp. Ganz turned the ball over too much but he played with confidence. One problem with landing high 4 star QBs is you tend to never really give that low 3 star guy a chance to show what he has in practice.

Ganz was a 2 star with zero P5 offers but Callahan was forced to play him. You don’t have to have NFL measurables or an NFL arm to be a successful college QB. I have zero doubt that NU would have won more games over the last 2 years if Joe Ganz had been our QB. We’ll see about Colandrea. The QB competition should be good.
