A agree. JQ is a big risk. It is much harder for big guys to overcome these types of injuries. Also depends on attitude to come back. We might sign him and he stay through the year and never play. When did his injury happen?

Arizona State's Jayden Quaintance underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee on March 19th and is expected to be cleared for contact in September, putting him on track for the start of the 2025-26 college

He was an absolute animal out there man. Incredibly athletic, bruising big man with a MOTOR.
True, but would prefer one of them to be a legit 3pt shooter, so really want Folgueiras. Garrison just made 30% last year. Dioubate did make 46% but only made 12 shots (12-26). If he only took 26 for Oats, then it's hard to call him a 3pt shooter.

If we don't do anything else at Center, we have BG and Moreno.
If JQ comes and never plays, we have BG and Moreno.
As long as we're not knocking outself out of the good SG's left, it's a free risk.

I think it’s a risk if he is all we have. I think he becomes a luxury with BG and MM.
The big question to me is … how much do you pay for someone who might be 70-75%? Here’s what I know about ACL surgeries. Players are usually 70-75% post surgery regardless of health of knee. It takes a full year to get comfortable/confidence back.
JQ is a freak that NBA people love. He’ll either push hard wanting as much time as possible next year to impress NBA scouts, or possibly return for another year wanting to be the top pick. JQ is still super young and should still be in HS. Could be a win/win.
I have zero clue who Pope has lined up. However, my biggest question is how much money do you pay an injured player regardless of talent. May be time for Pope to go to his big givers and say “I need another 2’mil for this year” for a potential game changer in Feb-Mar.

I agree. And with that risk potentially comes a huge reward if the gamble pays off. JQ will probably be the best center in college basketball next season. I would equate him to having Daniel Orton as a sophomore. If he's willing to come, you just can't turn that down, even with the ACL surgery.
We have had our share of injuries not sure why we take a chance with other options on the table.
The ACL rehab timeliness is concerning. If he's on track for the start of the sesson, go for it. But if not, I'd look elsewhere.
Maybe Rick will give it Pope part of the money. I think we still need 1 more big that can go in and out. If he signs and knocks us out of someone else that would be bad. I hope we get 1 more SG/Wing 6'5" guy with tons of shooting (Pierre or Yates). I also how we get a 6'9" or bigger guy that can dribble, drive, shoot and go inside. IF JQ can do that and is good to go fine (Pope knows what he's doing).
One other thing landing JQ might give Pope is some extra credibility. People have been dogging the hell out of him for not being able to land elite talent. Well, JQ is about as elite as they come, so if he can sign him, that should shut up the doubters pretty damn fast.

Not only will he be coming off ACL injury and repair, but the SEC is super physical and refs let it go but it also wipes out his off season of FR to SO improvements he's going to be rehabbing and not practicing/getting better

I would love to have him. I watched him a couple of times and he was stout on the boards and defensively against guy three years older than him.
Does adding him send Garrison to the portal?
If he’s healthy enough to play 95%, then it’s worth it. But I could see Garrison leave thinking he’ll be a backup again, then in the fall JQ be behind on rehab, Moreno is our C with I guess Dioubate as backup.

He might be willing to sit the bench and slowly work his way back. That would be a great benefit to someone like him. And after watching the title game,we need a power rebounder enforcer inside.

We won’t get both imo. Not without losing Garrison . But Alvaro is no sure thing . He wants to take multiple visits. If you can get JQ you take him . If you lose him , go strong after Alvaro.

Evidently Alvaro is not as close to a sure thing as we may think . He has said he wants to take multiple visits and I’ve been told that euro agents are becoming hesitant on their players coming into the sec because of its athleticism.
