He should be good to go for basketball. My son had the same type of surgery (possibly more damage than JQ had) in October and he was cleared 100% for sports 6 months after surgery. He's not having any issues in football (his 40 time is only .1 slower than before) but in basketball he is having trouble with lateral movement playing defense. He had to shut down basketball this summer just before the dead period. It's probably because he was practicing football in the mornings and playing 3-4 basketball games a day in the afternoons, too much too soon.

Yall think he’ll be ready by say Dec 1 ? Man between JQ and Mo D we might be the best rebounding team in the SEC or even the whole country. Then take into account Aberdeen, Oweh and Kam at the 2-3 plus whatever Jelavic and Garrison gives us at the backup 4/5. lol we’re loaded.

Sounds like a good kid. Both physical talent and basketball skills. For me, the most important thing is to make sure he’s managed properly for his case. Lots of variation between individuals and their recovery. Basketball is demanding and brutal in terms of lateral movement. Ideally he returns and plays enough to be well integrated into the team by tournament time at 100%. More and sooner would be icing. The training staff and medical teams will do the right thing for both JQ and the team.

Yeah you’re right, especially about the lateral movement. My son isn’t having any issues in football but he’s struggling with lateral movements in basketball. I believe the hard surface of the court also is a factor vs the cushioned feel of turf in football.

He’s gonna be ready by September to practice he will play in game 1. Maybe even a couple preseason games. This isnt cal U and tbh JQ has work to do on his game to solidify his draft status. The best thing for him is to play day 1, grow in the role and be on top of his game by mid December.

Seems very smart. Wouldn't surprise me if his rehab doesn't allow him to reach his potential this season he would come back and spend a second season here to get his degree. He'd still be under 20 for the 2027 draft. Amazing. A lot of guys are 19 when they are freshmen.
