Everyone is hoping for a speedy and healthy recovery for JQ ... there is no question that we need him on the floor.
He will provide physicality and athleticism that we certainly need, especially against BIGS for the other team.
Defensively, I assume he will be a force in the middle, but am curious as what most here realistically expect his production to be.

If healthy, will he play close to thirty (30) minutes per game ??
It would be great if he ends up averaging a double-double for the year ... I sure hope he can do it !!!

Last year, he averaged:
Season: 29.5 mpg, 9.4 pts, 7.9 rbs, 2.6 blks
Conference: 29.5 mpg, 9.5 pts, 7.5 rbs, 1.9 blks

Need some positive JQ news asap.
I'm a little leary because I think Pope may have embellished his recovery timeline a bit over the summer.
I don't doubt that he's on the plus side of normal as far as recovery but I don't think this will be a Derrick Anderson timeline.
You could probably classify DA as a medical anomaly as far as recovery time.
DA was less than 4 months out at the time of the championship game which he probably could have played in.
If he were 8 months out like JQ is, he would have played and wiped the floor with Miles Simon.

I hope, when he was initially signed it was being referenced his return was going to be at the start of the season, now it’s looking like January or later, at that point, he will have missed out on all practices up to that point, expect minimum contribution.

So what is his status currently? I seen him dunking and jumping head above the rim? Looked pretty explosive. What does he need to to do before he plays? Not being sarcastic it just seems like there’s never really any update on him making me think he never plays here.

Contact. Full speed plant and go lateral cutting. Jumping and landing off of the affected leg.

At this point, I’d be shocked if he’s back before Christmas. Pope seems to be super vague when asked. Someone asked the question directly in the Wednesday “family” presser and Pope started rambling about his on court workouts he watches from his office. Avoided any mention of a timeline. That alone told me he’s not cleared for contact and he’s at least 4 weeks away from that point. Once cleared for contact, it’s a pretty specific timeline moving forward.

Basically he has to pass >95% symmetry on his RTS test, pass the YBT test, Hop Test, Running Test, and meet strength guidelines. These are set standards specific to the athlete (the numbers you'd need to meet vary from JQ and other players etc) and he won't be released for contact until he passes those. Timeframe for that is the 6-9 month window (which we are in now at just over 7 months since surgery back on March 19). Every month he waits, the likelihood of reinjury drops by almost 50% each month from the prior month. In most high level athletes 12 months is the goal post for back 100%, 6-9 months is strength and mobility training, and by month 9 they are usually released to return to contact and eased into full game reps. VERY subjective as we all heal at different rates. Just averages. People with better overall health and vascular blood flow will heal faster but risk reinjury from coming back too soon. If we see him before conference play I'll be amazed. Hopeful, but we really have no time frame, and neither does Pope, until the surgeon writes off on allowing contact. That kind of starts a new clock, until then, it's just wait and see and try to gauge him against the averages.

My guesses are January 10th at home vs MSU or Texas at home on the 21st.

This is a guy that will be a longtime NBA player making tens of millions of dollars in his career IF and only IF he’s the athlete he was before or better. He’s not a skill guy. Its size and athleticism that are a rare combination in the world that will make him wealthy. Can’t take any risk on his health/athleticism angle if you’re him.

Think they take their time and he starts practicing near the end of the year and obviously has some ramp up with a debut at home.

Expect he plays much less than 30 MPG. I expect Moreno surpasses Garrison over the next couple of months with him and JQ getting the majority of C minutes.

I have to agree. We need more production from the 5 position. Not sure JQ will be able to knock off the rust if he's gonna play in February and March. Not saying that's the case but it's looking more and more bleak based on the reports.

Hopefully he's working on that FT shooting while rehabbing....ugly

I think he sits OOC and is back for SEC play. 9 months was always the spot IMHO. I’d be very surprised if he isn’t ready first of the year at the latest.

I’m just hoping it’s not one of those game by game things ,where he plays a game , there’s some swelling so they hold him out, and so on and so on ……..
Me too, which is why I think they wanna take the most time they can. I’d rather have him actually back so he can play a lot of games in a row to be ready for the stretch run.

I know that he was highly rated, but 9 points & 8 rebounds a game isn't setting the world on fire. The 3 blocks a game is nice

“Supposedly “ his defensive metrics were better than Anthony Davis as a freshman. And I’m thinking he was just 17 . You would expect big improvement in year two, especially since he’s grown 1 1/2 inches and gained 25 lbs . Of course the injury may negate every bit of that .
