In the Maiden / WC game there was a long completion by Maiden and on the play there was a flag against WC for pass interference. Maiden was allowed to accept the penalty with the yardage added to the end of play.

Was that the correct application of the rules? I know if college or pros its an either/or situation. Take the results of the play or take the penalty yardage but not both. Is that different in high school?

We were talking about that when it happened and I said at the time that I thought they screwed that up. It should have been that Maiden declined the penalty and took the results of the play. But like you said maybe it is different in high school.

Pass interference in high school is not a spot foul. Penalty is marked from previous spot. If they decline the penalty, it's the result of the play

I heard that last night on the radio broadcast and scatched my head. Coach of West Caldwell should have questioned that hard. Strange rulings this year in the west but nobody is perfect.

I was at the game and wondered the same. I asked an official who I work with, and he said defensive pass interference is treated like a face mask. You can take the play and accept the penalty. I don't understand why, since it is not a personal foul and it doesn't occur after the play. He also said there is such a thing as intentional pass interference which is a 30 yard penalty. Never heard of that one either.

If it is intentional pass interference it can be tacked

Whoever you spoke with is wrong. Pass interference is a loose ball foul and always goes by to previous spot for penalty administration. Of course they can decline it and take the result of the play

Yes there is intentional pass interference. Never seen it called, but it is a rule. See below:

“Art. 10 – Pass interference – (S33) – 15 yards. If the pass interference by either player is intentional, his team shall be penalized an additional 15 yards”
