Question about going to a high school football game?

It seems today that the majority of people do not carry much cash on them anymore. Does it make sense to use a credit or debit card to get into the football game?

Would fans like the option to prepay with a credit card before the game? You can then print your ticket or have it on your smart phone to be scanned at the gate. (you could also buy tickets for family or friends and email them the ticket(s) for convenience) This would eliminate waiting in a long line.

The cost would be .80 cents on a $5 ticket, so $5.80 to get in.

There would be no charge to use your credit or debit card at the door.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I don't carry a large amount of cash on me but I always have a few bucks to get into a game. To buy online and print out tickets seems like a big hassle for a small purchase price.

You do not have to print it. It can be on your phone and then the school just scans you in as you walk by. Kind of like how Southwest Airlines does it now.

All.... Buy a season ticket. Most schools have this available. Even if you don't go to all of the games the school still benefits from your purchase.

Or if you are really over the top some schools offer this.... A reserved seat (a cushy one with a back) on or near the 50 yard line. Quite a bit more expensive. No waiting in line. Good for all home games and should your team make the post-season those as well at your stadium. The Catholics always fund raising are pretty good at this. Especially when paying off occurred debt.. I have three. (lol) Rat

The software does assigned seating, as well as season tickets. It's all up to the school.

All.... There you go.... I'm curious. What school and how much? Mine, Sacred Heat-Griffin charges $250a pop with a two seat minimum. Of course SHG just built the first stadium they have ever had as well as building improvements at both the East and West campus. The best $750 dollars I have ever spent. Ratsy

It is laughable to ever expect getting admitted via phone ticket scan to certain facilities or certain school districts. I will leave it up to your own personal experiences to identify some of those stadium venues. Hell would freeze over first.

It would never work for a CPS game at Gately or any other facility. Technology upgrades would be necessary and are not an important part of the budget.

I would guess the first schools to get this are Stevenson and New Trier. I'm sure it'll happen soon.

All.... Yes, if my Griffin math is correct this will be my fifth year doing that. SHG completed a 12 million dollar rehab building project back in 2013. Per the good Sisters wishes the new football/soccer stadium (the Cyclones only had a practice field , all home games were played at the public school stadium ) was the last item completed after 70% of the building costs were raised or pledged for that entire figure. Now many alumni have been giving money to the school for years. Including me. I didn't think it would ever happen (nor expected it) but I'm getting something back now with my donation to the school. Go figure.... Ratsy

As a small business owner... accepting credit cards cost us money. There would have to be a financial benefit. If a school were to take credit/debit cards, maybe just at one gate.

I think that's where the 80 cents come in.

Fishwaters original post had the ticket cost at $5.80 versus the normal 5 bucks. The 80 cents is not paid for by the business (the school in this example) but instead is paid for by the ticket purchaser (i.e. Parents and fans etc). Fish - am I correct in the above statement?

I am assuming the 80 cents per ticket goes to the owner of the of software and equipment and the school/IHSA gets the normal 5 bucks.

Well we live in a free market society (sort of) - I'm sure schools could offer the service and if folks want to pay 5.80 for online ticket on phone like online airline boarding passes then they have that option. If fans want to use old style cash and pay 5 bucks - then they still have that option.

im guessing school districts would start with a small test at one.school to see if it is of benefit and if enough people use it. Personally I think it is faster to pull out a Fiver and pay at the gate then going on my phone and doing all that voodoo to get a virtual ticket. The one exception would be high demand games (rivalry games, playoff games etc). I really dislike treking down to the school during work time to buy tickets midweek to ensure I have tickets before it is sold out. I would definitely use this service for games like NV/WV, NN/NC etc etc. especially if they are played in a high school stadium.

It's completely up to the fan. You can prepay $5.80 or pay $5 at the gate. You can also pay with a credit or debit card at the gate for $5. The high school gets charged a 2% credit card fee on those transactions.

Why don't you just wait until the Antichrist (or is that The Beast?) has everyone chipped, then all you would need to do is have the chip scanned at the gate. No muss, no fuss, no bother!!!
