Daniels starts, but is Riley getting routine snaps, or are they rotating Deontre in there.

It seems like we run mostly 4 man fronts with a nice 2-deep at DT (at least against all these spread teams, we seem to be mostly in a 4-2-5). Daniels and Ty are run stuffers and Stille and Deontre are pass rushers.

Northwestern ran 66 plays against Nebraska. Damion Daniels was in on 24 snaps, Jordon Riley for 8. The entire DL, according to Pro Football Focus:
  1. Stille 37
  2. Thomas 33
  3. Robinson 29
  4. Daniels 24
  5. Rogers 13
  6. Riley 8
That's a total of 144, or (144/66 plays), or an average of 2.2 interior DL per play, meaning, as @headcard noted, we were running a lot of alignments with four down "linemen" (the 4-2-5 with Domann as the nickel) but with at least one and often two of them being nominal linebackers such as Tannor, Nelson and Payne.

Season to date snaps:
Stille - 230
Robinson - 221
Daniels - 186
Thomas - 169
Riley - 35

Casey Rogers got his first snaps of the season last week w 13 so you will likely see him play more on passing downs. You'll see a higher % of snaps for Daniels this week as in his traditional NG role based on the formations Michigan tends to run. Need him to be the beast he's been in stuffing the middle.

Nice stats. But didn’t I see Pheldarius Payne out there for a few plays too?

I wrote "Payne" in the list of linebackers with their hands on the ground. So, yes, you did!
Payne is now a nice piece as he was a DE but shifted to OLB after losing weight. Along with Nelson they can run a lot of combos.

It's nice to have a rotation there. Riley could be a good one and it will be nice to start mixing in Nash towards the end of the year for the 4 games. Just get him a few snaps.
