I know that the 2009-2010 Cats started 19-0 and the 1965-1966 Cats started 23-0, but I'm not sure where 15-0 ranks?
A little help please?

Thx Goose. I have googled UK win streaks in basketball but came up empty. I also went to Mr Scott's site but no luck.
Also went to UK athletics but no dice on streaks?

Any ideas ?

There was a thread just a week or two ago that had all the longest streaks on it. In addition to the ones you've named (19-0 in 2009-10 and 23-0 in 1965-66), you have to include the 1954 team that went undefeated (25-0). I'm pretty sure the longest win streak in school history is the 1954 season (25 wins) plus however many wins we had to start the following season.

So unless I'm forgetting one, maybe the current 15-0 start ranks 4th behind '54, '66, and '10?

The 1969-70 team (when Issel/Pratt were seniors) started 15-0 before losing at Vanderbilt.

77-78 went 14-0 before dropping a game at Alabama, 83-84 went 12-0 before a lost week in which they got beat twice, 87-88 went 10-0 before semi-falling apart in SEC play, and 92-93 went 11-0 before losing at Vandy.

Those are just teams I know off the top of my head that went undefeated OOC.

Over on KSR BTI put this post out after we started 10-0. It was the 11th time that happened.

After looking at each season UK's record before their first loss each season is as follows:

1954 - 25-0 (no loss this season)
1959 - 11-0
1964 - 10-0
1966 - 23-0
1970 - 15-0
1978 - 15-0
1984 - 13-0
1988 - 11-0
1993 - 13-0
2010 - 19-0

So we are tied for the 4th best start ever.

Thanks Goose. So if we win tomorrow, which we will, only '54, '66 and '10 will have better starts to the season! Go Cats Go!!

Pretty crazy that in addition to all the other successes Cal has had at UK, we now have 2 of our 4 best starts in SCHOOL HISTORY since he's been our coach.

If you're just talking win streaks to start a season, yeah, it's up there...The longest win streak in school history is 27 in 1996. The longest win streak that spanned multiple seasons was in 1954-1955..32 straight.

The team known as Rupp's Runts with Pat Riley, Louie Dampier and Tommie Kron went undefeated until the last game of the regular season losing to Tennessee in Knoxville.

Go Big Blue!

My Grandpa and my Mom were/are big UK fans and my Mom tells the story about Rupp's Runts like this:

She was pregnant with me as she and Grandpa watch the 1966 Finals UK v Texas Western from their home in Valley Station, Kentucky.

She said Grandpa and her cried and cried after UK lost and she said I was forever branded a UK fan after that game.

Well here I am 48 yrs later and you know what?

She was right!

This team is better than all of those teams so I'd not worry that much.
I don't know enough about the early teams. You are probably right about them, I really don't know. I don't remember the 1984 team but most people thought that team was pretty strong.

I certainly disagree with this team being better than 2010. That 2010 team (at least in my opinion) was the best team we have had at UK. The outside shooting limitation was overblown because they had an atrocious night from 3pt range against WVU. This team has had their own struggles with outside shooting in games too. I really hope at the end of the year we can say that 2014 is better than 2010 in one regard.... that they are national champions.

I disagree...The 2010 team was very good, no question about it, but the perimeter limitation was real, regardless of the perception. The WVU performance was something we all worried about with that group all season...It was really unfortunate it happened the way it did, when it did, but it was a part of that team we always thought might rear it's ugly head. Additionally, that group turned the ball over far too much. Sometimes as many as 20-25 per game. IMO, the 2012 group was better because they took better care of the ball, were far more balanced offensively, and were better defensively. But it is close, to be sure.

The '54 team was as close to a lock as you could get, if the whole team had been allowed to play.
