Have been reading this morning about how much straight party voting is expected this year......it got me to thinking about the absentee ballot I filled out a couple weeks back. I might be wrong about this, but I honestly don't recall it having a straight party selection (which surprises me in a county where I believe a preponderance of the electorate votes in that manner).

Anyway, was wondering if your ballot (either in person or absentee) had a straight party selection.

West Virginia did away with that option.

No, mine did not. I didn’t vote straight party either. There were a couple of judges I voted for that were running as Dems that I’m friends with and respect their jurisprudence.

Must be a real **** job that no one wants.

It is an occupation in very high demand with very few qualified and competent to do it. Most land surveying is accomplished by private firms who are hired by the individual landowners. If a dispute arises, it can go to court to be settled and either a judge (usually) or a jury can make a final decision. Honestly, there is very little need for the position, although they do assist the assessor in developing property tax maps.

Your responses to my question prompted me to do a little research and I learned only six (6) states still have straight ticket voting (AL, IN, MI, KY, OK, and SC).

Thus in the other 51 states you must fill in the oval for your candidate.....
