I suspect the conference realignment talk interferes with the progress towards the 8 team playoff. It may even be planned that way. Teams like bama love the current situation.

we had BCS for 15 yrs, and thought it needed to change as soon as it started...so I'll go with 2029...way off Gman.

If ESPN/Disney, FOX, NBC/Comcast, CBS/Viacom choose to pay extraordinary Giga-Bucks for up to even a 16-team FB playoff, then we will get it! And the CFB rules will be changed to accommodate the medical hit issues.

Cannot give you a date, but I can give you a scenario:

The 8-team playoff will happen when either:
(1) Notre Dame and at least four of the 5 P5 champions are undefeated, resulting in one undefeated champion being left out. OR
(2) A 12-1 SEC champion gets passed over for 4 undefeated P5 teams.

The likelihood of either #1 or #2 happening is 1 in 2,433.

It will happen because most fans want it to happen. However, it will end the P5!
