Favorites:
5A Sterling...best of a weak field?
6A Prairie Ridge....dominant after Week 1 (most prohibitive favorite in the top 4 classes?)
7A ESL.....great talent (chip on their shoulder after being denied by strike last year?)
8A Loyola....defensive questions? Marwede is a matchup nightmare.

Not-so-dark horses:
5A Morris......nice draw. Big, physical team.
6A C-G....second time the charm against PR?
7A Glenbard North.....huge possible 2nd round matchup with ESL. Maybe the two best teams in 7A play in round 2?
8A Palatine.....was on the cusp last year. Great offense and big-time, experienced QB with numerous weapons, but it's a loaded 8A field.

Stevenson would be at Br. Rice if both teams win this weekend.
Stand corrected. Need to use my optical plan. That's worse for BR. Would play LA on road if they beat Stevenson. But if they win two games then they are out of the prep bowl playoffs then. Correct?

This would keep the private school haters quiet for a few minutes!

I'm also sure it will not end that way. At least for 7A, neither path for ESL or BB will be as easy as people may think. For ESL, LWW was in the championship last year and GBN went 7-2 in the DVC. For BB, Auburn, Rita, Fenwick and LZ are teams that can and will cause a lot of problems.

So glad Palatine and Loyola are on opposite sides of the bracket this year..I know the Pirates are itching for a rematch. I think 13-0 Palatine vs 13-0 Loyola would wind up, like, a 49-42 last score wins kinda game

It is true that Fenwick, Lake Zurich and Glenbard North are threats; but Lincoln-Way West, Rockford Auburn and St. Rita most certainly are not... at least not to make it to the championship game.

I do think Bradley has a much tougher road to the final than ESL. ESL may have GBN (DVC) but LWW is no threat this year. They lost 10 of their 11 starters on offense from that championship team and their offense has been inept at times this year. The (2) touchdowns against Stagg (0 - 9) came off of (3) defensive TO's within the last 3 minutes of the game. They scored (1) offensive TD in their losses to Lockport and HF. They scored no offensive TD's in their loss to Normal. They just put up 14 against Sandburg in regulation in that loss.

The LWW D is really good. By comparison, ESL scored 20 against Edwardsville which I have been told has a really good D. IF ESL scores 20 against LWW, game over as they have not scored more than 14 points in any of their (4) losses against winning teams and HF is the only one on that list that compares in quality to ESL.

A lot of people in the McHenry county area that know a lot about both CG and PR think CG will beat them in a rematch. That Cary team looks very much improved since that week 1 loss. Fast defense

Don't go jinxing CG. Let them relish in obscurity.

That's a pretty tough matchup in round two with ESL and GBN.

Atta boy Gene!
Montini went to ESL last year and dominated both the varsity and soph games. I know that was last year but the way Fenwick beat Montini this year IMO they should beat ESL. I know that ESL has received a lot of hype deservedly so. I dont know the quality of the teams that ESL faced this year but If Keller has his usually good game they could win big!
