Do you guys know if any schools are skipping their pre-season intra-squad scrimmage this year? Boylan usually has theirs the Friday before the regular season starts, but I don't see it scheduled on the school's calander.

Most teams won't post it or the time so their opening week opponent doesn't know when it is. You won't be able to find it anywhere.

Almost everyone who doesn't have it posted on schedulestar or il.8o8 will be shouting it out all over twitter in the coming weeks.

In the 'burbs, if a team plays at home on Friday nights, it is highly likely their chosen pre-season public display form is one week before opening Friday around early-evening time.

Also time to get rid of the in-house scrimmage games and allow teams to scrimmage against another school....
Publicly, I would suspect most ADs would support this, but deep-down - NOT. I think the scheduling "opponents" of such events could be dicey, too. Other states have found a way to do this, but I can understand the unwillingness here. Odds strongly against it, I would guess.

Why? I'm not for it or against it, just asking.

Even though football is somewhat of on "outlier" already, many athletic programs are tooled to make that "scrimmage night" part of an overall beginning of the year family-event welcome to all the fall offerings including introductions, booster membership drives, substance/code of conduct, etc. for ALL sports. Instead, possibly half of the varsity FB teams will be on road at that time and such could disturb some important customary protocols in place and even split families. In addition, you can bet the scheduling of scrimmage opponents will be a huge deal. See what a challenge non-conference scheduling has become. Even though a scrimmage will not count toward the playoffs, this match-up will be under the microscope in many settings and disruptive toward actual Week 1 preparation. Also, this would likely need to be done in conjunction with an earlier start to August practice in order to allow more acclimation time for this event upgrade. I may be dead wrong on every point, but as a parent and coach, I would not like this to come to pass.

Go ask any high school football coach and you'll be surprised the amount of support. A live scrimmage against someone other than yourself allows coaches time to evaluate kids in a live game situation. Coaches would have a real chance to see issues/make corrections etc. especially in this era of making sure kids are tacking properly etc. Getting to go live in a real live game situation as opposed to maybe 2/3rd speed at best against your own team?

I don't think it's a bad idea but coaches pretty much have an idea of who's legit and who's not by the time mid-August rolls around. Why risk an injury in a scrimmage? In a game that doesn't count? With numbers shrinking, you need every able body you can get. I would think a lot of coaches Would rather have a scrimmage against each other to please the parents than a full blown, full throttle scrimmage against another team and risk injury.

Wanna guess on how many kids get injured in scrimmages against each other? More than you'd think

sorry but I disagree. I don't think a full throttle scrimmage before your week 1 opponent is the best idea. #makescrimmagesgreatagain

Anytime you go full go you risk getting injured. It doesn't matter if it is against scout team or an actual opponent. I've seen many kids get injured either way. If you want an injury free way of practicing, join...well actually, I don't know of a sport where you are free of injury in practice.

The AD is the only job were most people understand why the can't do their job. Scheduling games/ scrimmages is not difficult at all! Almost every state have some form of scrimmage/ jamboree prior to the first game. Some do it in the summer time while others do it the week or two before the first game. Illinois is so scared to actually work. Imagine that.

Proposal: The Edgy Jamboree. Final tuneup before the season at Gately. Each team plays two halves against different opponents. Invite all semi finalists from 5,6,7,8A divisions. Treat like a controlled scrimmage with coaches allowed on field for 1st qtr then off for second quarter.

We did this back in Northern Virginia and it was a huge hit. Some used as fund raisers, boys used as measuring stick. New rivalries were started and you were guaranteed an experience against a team not on your schedule. It wouldn't have to be strictly semi teams but at least you would earn the invite. Schedulers work with coaches to adjust for things like in conference match ups being avoided. It would create an opportunity to cross classifications where someone like GW played a MC in 1st half, then Loyola for their 2nd half.

Use running clock to avoid having it last forever and eliminate kickoffs as "too dangerous" or taking too much time. Have fun with other rules but give the kids, fans and coaches a really good preview of your team.

Florida's first game of the season is a scrimmage as the results aren't figured into the playoff system.
