I am a former athlete, not a coaching expert. Unlike a lot of angry people on this chat board, I do not consider myself a surrogate athletics director. I can only say what I see. People who wanted Petrino don't care about the school or its rep, they just want to wake up from their stupors on Sunday morning with less of a headache. They want a fast fix. But football isn't a simple game. Because Petrino won somewhere else under different circumstances, they think he would do the same at Kentucky. I think Petrino or Leach would be a disaster at Kentucky. If it was that simple, every school would do it that all. And if that approach worked, Curry would still be our coach. If we invest mega money in a big time coach with scandal in his past, Kentucky will probably end up on the hook for $20-30 million when the guy gets into trouble the next time. Or if he succeeds, he will leap at the 1st big job that opens up, then tweet his thanks to us. When I look for success at SEC programs that rose up from the bottom, I think of Dan Mullen, Jamie Franklin, Hugh Freeze. Mullen and Franklin had never been HCs before. Stoops was that kind of a hire, but Stoops made a mistake right off the bat by bringing Eliot and he has never gotten his staff straightened out. However, facilities have been modernized and most of the pieces are now in place for sustained success.
