.....would you take this deal to check back in? Let's say Stoops gets 2 more years (which I think he will) to show what he can do. If he gets us to .500 or better in conference by year 5, (pretty low bar, I know) then great, we're making progress. If he doesn't then at the end of year 5 he goes AND Mitch goes with him.

I don't think I can be "all in" right now knowing that following another failure, the same guy is going to be making the next hire. On the other hand, we get to .500 and have some hope for the future and the hire turned out to be the right one moving forward.

Yes. Absolutely this is a great deal, and it checks out on the NBA Trade Machine.

Someone make it happen.

You talk about 500 in conference as its a easy thing for us,when was the last time a Ky coach was 500 in conference play?[winking]

2006, but then that was only the fourth time in almost forty years. But then NONE of those four were above 500 IIRC. And that was the start of the improvements fiasco that mitch started that delayed any of the horribly needed improvements for half a decade or more------not at all sure how he justified the horrible support for football in all the other areas during his whole first decade though. In fact, no one can, not even Fuzz.

500 in conference would be icing on the cake for me. Win 3 in the SEC and all 4 ooc games. For me, that's a decent year and gives hope for the future.

What I really need to see is us being really, really good on one side of the ball (preferably offense). That would give me reason for excitement. Right now there is nothing I can see to be excited about.

Mitch WILL not be fired I am sorry to say! This is a basketball school! Now if he were at Tennessee and this was happening yes! But just get it out your mind he is not going to be let go! Period! Even though if not for Mike Pratt we would not have gotten Cal, but Mitch gets the credit!

If you are a long time fan ( like many of us here) then we all go along for the ride where ever it takes us. We will see what the next season brings us, but make no mistake stoops faces an uphill battle to get to .500 for the season (let alone the SEC)

Stoops will almost certainly get two more years but if he is sub .500 in both of them then he is done. This is a tough job and coaches have been swimming against the current here for 50 years.

It is plain to see that many here don't like MB but he is likely to be here till he doesn't want to be here( baring some type of scandal) his job doesn't hang in the balance based on the fate of a football coach.

Stoops future here depends on if this recruiting class hangs together and how good Barker is or isn't at the QB spot.

I have not given up on Stoops yet, but the coaching, game adjustments, and clock management need to improve greatly. Looking at the schedule for next year, a 4 win season is what I am expecting, while hoping for more, just don't see it. I think Stoops is a good guy, but wont be shocked if after 5 seasons with him as HC, we have not had a winning season, or get to a bowl game. Do I expect too much, 7-5 every year with the occasional 8-4, don't seem unrealistic to me.

Deals aside Mitch is tied to the waste with Stoops now anyway. Mitch shouldn't be allowed to survive if Stoops fails regardless of when it is. He has made some of the biggest mistakes in history. The Gillispie hiring has to be considered the absolute worst coaching hire in College athletics history. The fact that Cal wanted the job back then only makes it worse.

His management of football has been questionable at best. And that's really even being generous. Could have hired Leach back in 2001 but decided not to because he wanted to distance himself from the Mumme regime. So instead of Leach who was at Texas Tech at the time he hires Mumme's Associate head coach at the time of the cheating instead. Hmm.

He then let's Morris leave after 2 years and then invests 7 years Rich Brooks. We got 3 winning season out of that investment before Mitch started backing away from support for Brooks and started pushing for Joker to take over. I believe Brooks would still be here now if he had got the support that Stoops is getting now but that didn't happen. We got things going and then decided to change directions to the Joker years. We've been a disaster every since.

Mitch seems to be uncomfortable with success. He doesn't interview coaches that have a known track record of success such as Calipari and opts instead for an unknown gamble. On the chance the gamble pays off we then start to pull away from the coach. I no longer trust Mitch to make any decision for the school. One thing is clear based on past history is that if Stoops is let go you can rule out any available coach that is a "big name" or has a record for success. Even if we have a legit shot at them we won't even interview them. Mitch will instead offer the job to an unknown coach with no track record simply because he is comfortable with him. That to me is unacceptable. This ridiculous contract, on the heals of the Joker coach in waiting, is just the final straw.
