I like him. They had some missed assignments and tackles against Ole Miss, but overall he has produced defenses that were good enough to win if we had an offense. How long does Clayton White stay on board this sinking ship? Obviously he won't leave before the end of this season, but I would expect that with all the openings in CFB this year, he'll be shopping his resume around.
Is that you Ray?He's certainly not ready for a P4 HC job. I could see a higher profile program kicking his tires for DC, though. I think we should move now to give him a raise and extension.

From his long term career perspective.
He can come back here and work on a good defense again, only to lose his job as the staff gets fired.
Or take his reputation and shoot for a G5 job, or a DC at a better school.
If it were me, I would have to seriously consider looking at the DC position at a top P4 school.
White may be looking at the landscape and thinking "I can stay a DC at an SEC school and not put the ridiculous stress of being a HC in this environment".
I like White & want him to stay here as DC (with maybe a guest DC anytime we play Drinkwitz), but no coach on a 1-7 conference team should get a raise. Last time we had a conference record that bad was the dreaded Chicken Butt on the helmet season. He's certainly not ready for a P4 HC job. That kind of thinking is what got Teasley a massive raise this past offseason. The team finished well, so everyone got rewarded, even though he was objectively awful. Literally one of the worst OL coaches in CFB, but he got a raise b/c folks only looked at the final record. As absurd as that was, it would be equally absurd to just look at the final record this year and say nobody deserves a raise.
Our D has FAR outplayed our 3-6 record. If we had a mediocre offense, we'd likely be at least 7-2 right now. In spite of how awful the offense has been, often putting the D in bad positions and giving them little rest, we are 47th nationally in scoring defense at 23.6 ppg. That is, frankly, remarkable given how atrocious the offense has been.
We can't on the one hand acknowledge that White has performed so well that other programs might try to poach him from us but on the other hand argue that he doesn't deserve a raise b/c the offense sucked. We are terrible this year only because of the OL and offense overall. White has nothing to do with it.
Im on the "give him a raise" side. He and his staff have earned it.
And I think we need to seriously wonder if he is jumping ship.
Let me just add that my view is that White informed Beamer of his intent to move on after last season. So Beamer brought in an experienced DC to be an analyst with the intention of making him DC once White moves on. Beamer brought in Shula with the expectation that Loggains would move on. History rhymes.
I'm not a mind reader. That said, the offense in 2023,,,,let's just say fans were not enthralled with it. That season was considered a disappointment. So you're saying Beamer's intention prior to the start of the 2024 season was to fire Loggains at season's end?
