I'm going to guess 1959 when they hired that new coach just as Ernie was turning things around at that place.
1958-59 4 3 2 Ernie Zaleski
1959-60 2 6 1 Gordon Gillespie

I think Provi is under ranked. They were decimated by injuries last year. I was led to believe, from previous conversations with Provi fans, that they should have two strong classes on varsity this year. We will find out early against ESL in Week 1.

JCA/JCHS has not had a sub .500 season since 1959, as ignazio pointed out above. My guess is that steak ends this year.

I do think PC definitely ends up in rankings. The only year that I would guess JC was not ranked in preseason would be '97. I know they went 5-4. They lost Randle and it was a transition year at HC. They could very well have been ranked though as they had just finished runner up in 2nd highest class. As far as both PC/JC not starting out in rankings I cant recall any in last 40 years .

You are probably right about this being the first year both are not ranked in the preseason. I just had a discussion with a fellow Hilltopper about this year's JCA team. The 1997 year came up. I'm guessing this will be as thin a roster since 1997, which was Sharp's first year as HC.

IMO, there isn't a HC or staff that generates more board discussion than JCA. Whether it's offensive scheme, defensive philosophy, in-game adjustments etc. etc. I'll say this for this year's team. That heavily scrutinized and debated coaching staff may well have its greatest challenge on its hands.

So, is neither team in the Top 100 of Edgy??

The ONLY way JC has any success offensively is to get away from QB's who want to pass. It does not work at JC any better than it did for Woody Hayes! "We coach running backs" has been the stated mantra by the coaching staff in the past. So, find the Sopko/Bourg type QB's again and quit pretending you can have a passing QB. It hasn't worked in 10 years...since the last title. And coach the backs to hold on to the ball in big situations, if you are coaching running backs. Many, if not most of the playoff losses since 2007, have been due to fumblia by the "greatest backfields" in the state.

I definitely understand them being unranked. The potential of this team is "A". Very athletic bunch. The last time these seniors all played together, they won ccl blue title as frosh(shared). The Junior class are two time defending ccl blue champions (shared). I have personally never seen this many athletes on one team for Provi. There is also a new out of state transfer kid who looks to be an impact player!! This year will be interesting. If they can pull all this talent and inexperience together, look out!

Hard to call PC a "darkhorse" but coming off a 3-6 year, I would. Warfield got hurt week 3 vs MC and they had some key kids not play to focus on baseball. This year 2 really good classes together.

Word on the street is Warfield is healed up and 100% again.

With LA and MC at week 8 and 9, I see him being on pace at that point to break Medina's record of 2,745 down there.

That'll be a tough record to break within PC's current offense. He might approach the 2,000 mark all purpose but I think Louie's record is intact lol!! He is looking healthy ag ain. Watch out for his backfield mate Mariano Sori. 2018 kid who already has a couple offers from heading into the season.

Seems like the anticipation is growing in Celtic nation. Tells me it could be a big year on the Emerald Isle.

this isnt the 90's lol
2700yds rushing maybe if PC had taft (no pun intended) every week it maybe possible but rushing over 300yds per game

Even 2000 is a stretch, i would say warfield getting over 1000 is more accurate and still a stretch

Interesting that MaxPreps has JCA at #24 and PC at 40 something. Let's see where things are after 9 games!!
