Name ONE, ONE, ONE, ONE team that has ever received a #1 seed that did not win the regular season conference or post season tournament in their conference. Good luck.
2 of those teams (UConn and Texas) made the Final Four. I would say they both deserved their #1 seed.Originally posted by sambowieshin:
Thanks for the info. I guess we have nothing to fear from the #1 seeds that did not win the regular season title or conference tournament because they were undeserving of that seeding to begin with.
None of the #1 seeds listed above have ever won the NCAA title.
Pretty obvious they didn't deserve the #1 seed. Duke will lose again to Mercer if given a one seed.

In 2009, the Big East had 3 #1 seeds! In my opinion, this is acceptable as their other 1 seed, UofL won the regular season and the BE tourney.Originally posted by bthaunert:

2009 UConn
2003 Texas
They got to the Final Four because they beat 4 teams in the tournament, which means they deserved to be in the Final Four. I don;t think they got there BECAUSE they were rewarded with a #1 seed. There are a lot of #1 seeds that don't get the the Final Four.Originally posted by sambowieshin: Originally posted by bthaunert:[/URL]

I agree. Who gives a rip, unless it pushes Wisconsin or Virginia into UK's region? If Duke gets seeded 3rd overall, that means they're out of UK's hair until the title game. If they make it that far to face UK, bring it on.Originally posted by bthaunert:

Those are 3 teams over the past 12 years. I didn't look further back than that, so there might be more teams.
I am indifferent on Duke getting a #1 seed, if they do.
Didn't one of those teams win the regular season and another win the tourney, so they don't count.... I think the operative word is Big East..... Duke and the Big East go hand in hand with UNC....Originally posted by Tyblue22:

ALL got 1 seeds, all from the big east.
3 teams from the big east got 1 seeds. Louisville was the #1 overall 1 seed
You're being intentionally obtuse. There are exactly four of these seeds available. There are 30+ conferences with automatic bids, so no, winning your regular season and conference tournament does not on its own mean you should be a number 1 seed. However, if you can't manage to win your conference regular season OR your conference tournament I consider it a fairly good sign there are probably 4 teams in the entire country that are better/more deserving of a 1 seed than you. Hell, at that point there may be 2 of them more deserving in your own conference.Originally posted by kyjeff1:
so if you don't win your conference or the conference tournament you don't deserve a 1 seed? Why? Gonzaga won both of theirs this year but does that mean they should be a 1 seed?
Also, for every team that lost both and didn't win the tournament there are 50 that did win their conference, received a 1 seed, and lost prior to the FF, does that mean they didn't deserve a 1 seed too?
