Sadly yes. The kid that played for us last year that moved into the area, who was really living at a hotel with his mom. He was one of the kids Griggs got down here too. I can't believe we did not investigate before we let him play. Although he did help us beat Mount airy.

Thats a disgrace. Curtis Kline is a former East Surry player listed in the coaching staff. If half of what is in that story is true, I hope they pay. Thats unbelievable. According to the story in the Mt Airy News a year or so ago about Chris they were telling about all the good things he was doing. I wonder what changed?
I know I'm trash and I shouldn't judge so all I'm going to say is he's moved up to P1 on my prayer list.

WOW.. this was insane to read. I know Chris moved back into the area recently after being up north for ages. I heard rumors in 2021 that he was gonna go to Surry Central and help them coach on offense when they had that good senior class but that never materialized for whatever reason. He was looking for an assistant job after for sure.. I hate he had to stoop to this.

This is sadly a new fact of life up North. That team that played IMG that gave up 100 points to them was into shady stuff but the one team that was really bad for it was Bishop Sycamore. There's a whole video about them by one of my favorite Football channels on You Tube who goes deep into what they did. It's very similar to what's going on here and at that other NC school:

Sycamore's worse because the dude that runs it keeps claiming it was in with a church and religiously based when all they did was take people's money and did immoral things with it until they got caught. Very similar to this case with the bouncing of payment at the hotels. It's eerily similar. The using of FAFSA though is pretty low; that's morally awful and on the line of not being legal. If they find evidence of wrong doing there, that won't be good, that's frauding of government funds. Especially if those players never enrolled at Forsyth Tech. Government like the IRS doesn't mess around there. Oy vey.

Until states start getting tougher with these groups they will keep popping up and it won't get not better. People need to be at least better educated about them before someone tries to mess with their minds and win them over. I hate it for those kids who legitly think they were getting a chance at college ball, I really do.

How does the kid that lived in a motel get cleared to play without a address? Was he paid to move here and who was paying for his motel. To me this should also be investigated by NCHSAA. As for Griggs he is trouble. Very shady guy now. Ik for a fact he had no place to live few months back and was asking for gas money. Very much into smoking weed. Wish he would turn his life around but so far its getting worse for him.

It would be nice to know who paid for that motel, wouldn't it? Hmmmm....interesting!
If you read the whole article, it looks like Forsyth Tech footed a large portion of the bill out of kindness. Forsyth Tech has no athletic programs. Plus parents paid upfront money.

Yeah but the kid from Minnesota or wherever that played for East Surry against Mount airy and a few other teams was not. All we know is he disappeared after the fourth game. Heck Mount airy might have went undefeated after all or before it's all said and done. It was fishy the whole time. Maybe we should look at our illustrous basketball coach. Although I think people are starting to see through that.

If he were playing for an NCHSAA member he would have been required to complete residency documentation. The local system has some autonomy plus the family has legal guardianship manuvers they can work.

If I was going to do something like this I wouldn't have brought in a 5'10" 175 lb guy I would have brought in Earl Campbell type.lol

My guess is the McKinney-Vento Act is how he was eligible or the family providing they were actively seeking housing.

And technically a hotel can be used for an address.

I agree. Still it's fishy. We beat Mount airy by then not being able to throw the ball. And us still in their signals in the first half. Thank God we got a lead because they started running their plays in in the second half. We didn't do anything. And I think they played much better defensively in the second half. Shutting down a quarterback like Folger is a tough task. However rumors did circulate that he was with Griggs. Or that he was found by Griggs at some camp in the Midwest. I think we have enough good things in the weight room and with how hard our staff works that we don't need to be recruiting players.

Tell that to a certain coach at the school.... if the qb from Surry Central shows up over there i know who had their hand in that. If you say anything to anyone you get ridiculed and they say you don't know what you are talking about. I know kids switch schools but when people go out and talk parents into pulling kids from one school to another solely for playing sports, thats wrong. Who am I tho? I don't have the pull or influence of some of the elite in our community

I was very involved in residency issues in 2007-2008 when Charlotte Meck did a citizens panel on eligibility. Unreal the stories I learned regarding what people would do to get their student into a school or just trying to survive. There was a huge crackdown on residency and the system found athletes were not the biggest culprits but the easiest to recognize.

Some of them:

1. Student provides a new address to the school that is suspicious. CMS Police (yes, they have a small group of retired CMPD officers) goes to investigate. It was the head guy and he noticed a car in the parking lot with a man in it. The lot was in front of an empty box building. It was the father of the student. They were homeless and that is where they were sleeping in their car.

2. Student moved between four different school districts over a three year period. Mother, father, both, and grandparents.

3. Student body president not legally at the school.

4. Head cheerleader not legally at the school.

5. One family had never moved and their children were districted to three different high schools over the period which shows how the issues arise and also why their is not as much school support. The two parents had been redistricted when a new high school opened in CMS in the 1960's splitting their school.

6. D2/FBS football is ruled ineligible when with the signing of a simple document he would have been eligible based on two strictly different factors. The parent tried to hide it thinking there were not eligible to be there but in fact were and provided bogus documents.

Charlotte Meck had a rule in place at that time the school you attended on day one of your freshman year or the first year you entered the system was your permanent "home" school. You could attend that no matter where you moved. This was done to due to the amount of moves made by some families and continuity for the student. Key was the student had to be eligible to be at that school on day one.

Few years later a BCS qb recruit is coming to CMS. The family is building a house in the district but due to delays they are still living in the previous home just over the county line in Union County. CMS pulls the student from class and notifies the parent they are breaking residency rules. Parent is going to hire an attorney after his plea that the home will be ready in less than a month and they have their current home under contract plus have a construction loan on the new construction property that is a nice upgrade. Attorney tells the parent CMS is basically idiots and an injunction will probably cause him and his BCS recruit brother to miss a game. Father goes and rents an apartment in the district, moves the family out of the house and completely moves them to the apartment for three weeks until the home is ready.

Take a good look at the last few years of ES football. Something stinky every year. Players at Carroll Co. VA one minute and at ES next without moving. Player at MA in caught with illegal substance and goes to ES and plays with no issues. Player shows up from Minnesota plays 2 games and disappears.
I smell a SKUNK........

Sounds like Lowman will go beyond other schools in the area to win. I for one saw this coming with all his posts saying recruiting. I know he is probably referring to college recruiting for his kids but at first glance, it looked like he was recruiting for ES, and players from the area and out may have seen it as that. Who knows, maybe not and it was just me.;)
....I am so looking forward to the 2023 Football Season !

How much longer will Lowman be at East?
Time will tell how the East Surry community accepts this about their coach and school board. It may not be as it seems but it doesn't look good with the East Surry faithful not liking what has taken place. It seems they started the post.

The coach i was referring to in my earlier post wasn't Coach Lowman. I named the coach in another post on another thread but it was removed. This coach was part of the group that had Coach Diamont removed. From what I've heard the Minnesota kid contacted the school and wanted to come here because of the past record of the program and nothing to do with the Aces Academy/Chris Griggs deal. After a couple drug busts in the hotel they were staying in the mama said that was enough and they went home. Lowman is a straight up guy, some of the others around there not so much.

Sorry, I miss read your post but did it happen under Diamont or Lowman as the coach?

I think what he's talking about is our current women's basketball coach. Who is the guy recruiting people behind the scenes to play with his kids. As we all have heard he tried desperately to get the two girls from North Wilkes the twins. To come to it east to play basketball. He's not a teacher. Yeah he is coaching the women's basketball team with his daughter on it. I don't think the girl from Mount airy is because of him recruiting though I think she had some issues with a predator that was coming around the high school over there or something. But when that guy is up in the box calling offense and defense. And he was the one stealing signals. He is the one that is bringing the looks and the scrutiny to our school. He is the one who played for Dave. But stabbed him in the back when his boy wasn't going to be the quarterback. However they won. And the boys from Carroll county did have residency in pilot mountain. And our head coach has done a great job in the weight room and conditioning and really getting our players better. I don't think we're going to be as bad as everyone thinks we are next year. I don't think we'll beat Mount airy. But I think we'll be there everybody else.

My question was not how long East will have Lowman but how long Lowman will stay there. Big job in NC opened up and some folks there are impressed with a coach from that area. Lowman does a good job. Seems East Surry has a lot of people that think they should have more influence. Note, that is from an outsider looking in.
