Questions for the Carmel guys and the general authorities.

1. Why so little love from MaxPreps? Carmel's 2019 starting power rating is 28, a steep decline from 2018's final power rating of 46. Why such a dramatic drop? The line has some monsters in the 290-300 range, and the linebacking corps in particular, with Lance Swain and Odeluga returning, looks to be exceptional. Ja'shawn Moore should have a breakout year at running back, and McCaravan, who has put eyes on Justin Lynch at the QB spot, says that the kid can play. Going strictly by the power ratings, Carmel could lose four or five games. Does this seem likely to anyone?

2. Every year I'll lose the video and sometimes the audio on two or three of the games broadcast by CBN over the NFHS network. It's always attributed to "technical difficulties," but that's a maddening explanation. Last year the whole game with SCN was audio only, which was a major frustration. And these are games I'm paying for. Has anyone else had the same problem, and if so, how do you fix it?

Well, they only bring back 2 starters on D. Lose Mendiola on the OL/DL. Lose QB, RB. Could be a long year. Surprised they were even placed that high.

I don’t take any weight in Max Prep rankings. People close to the program and area football know there is an amazing amount of talent, even though you won’t see too many of these players on many Top Prospect lists. If you buy into those lists Curie should be #1 to start the season because I’ve seen about 6 of their players on some of these lists. MC doesn’t return a big name skill player or top D1 prospect besides Jalen Grant who I think should be getting way more D1 offers then he’s already received and think he will after the season. Kenenna Odeluga is the best player I’ve seen in many years at MC and I think after this year he will be at the top of most lists because you’ll be seeing a lot more of him at Running Back where he can really turn heads. Ja’Shawn Moore is no longer at MC I’m told, hearing Hillcrest but can’t confirm.

Outside of Jalen and Kenenna the team is made up of a bunch of tough, hard hitting, excellent high school players that may not pass the eye test but can really play football very well, especially at this level. Ben Perry should be a prospect after this season...Tony Livermore is an outstanding WR and playmaker heading to Northwestern for baseball, leading receiver last year and great return man, but he’s 5’8 so you won’t hear too many talking about him, but he can play. Lance Swain returning MLB and leading tackler last season, but a tad undersized so you won’t see his name either.

One downside I will give them is they have a brutal schedule. Justin Lynch looking good but he’s a junior who sat and watched last year and has Maine South and Loyola week 2 and 3 to start his time as QB1, that’s a tall order for any QB even with experience.

I've had a tough time getting the NFHS games for years. I complained to the school and was told about "technical difficulties" and "we'll talk to them about it."

Last year, the service was terrible. After the season, I called NFHS to ask for a partial reimbursement. The guy insisted on giving me a full refund. Maybe if they give enough refunds, they'll fix the problem.

Regarding CBN (Caravan Broadcast Network), I complained to the moderator(s) numerous times over the play by play and color personnel. They seldom give any summary of what's taken place in the game or what any particular players might ha achieved. They describe the play and that's about it. I'm not asking for CBS Sports, but I always have too much to do to sit in front of my computer for 2.5 hours, so a game summary now and then would be helpful. (It pains me to say this, but they should listen to the LA radio guys.)

Brother Rice crew does an exceptional job. Credit given where it’s due. CBN really needs to step it up but I have no idea how that is runs. If they can’t get a couple students to volunteer who know the game or have some charisma to make the broadcast watchable then whatcha gonna do....go to the games if you can I tell people!

You're right, MC63. I'm not expecting Howard Cosell, who for all his faults was at least articulate, but they do need better play-by-play and color commentary. The same applies even more so to the texters and the tweeters, who become more critical when CBN goes out on us. We need an update every few minutes, not just when a major development on the field occurs.

I agree with the twitter needing to be updated more often. Especially late in games when it’s it’s a tight game (however I’m sure internet connections vary when doing road games). As far as the CBN commentators, they’re kids and trying it out in school. Sure they can be better, but who’s helping them get better? The old moderator left for an on air job a couple years back and is doing great. Can’t be easy to keep talented and experienced people in all areas on staff when they can make more elsewhere money

Althoff is covered by a nearly 80-year-old Coach Emeritus, from “little old” Perry County, Mo. His co-commentator just calls himself The Farmer.

They know the kids’ names and nicknames -
the program intimately - the plays, players, parents ... old southern boys who do their best.

Sorry if you don’t get great stats and replays and natural conversational commentary from the volunteers. Maybe to take your own stats based on the live visuals (stat takers do it live) or go the the game and sit on the bleachers.

The cost is very nominal compared to seeing a season of your Alma mater live.
