I agree with your first sentence for sure. But I never assumed that recruiting would be a problem for Pope, and still don't at this point. But I did want Bennet Stirtz or Bruce Thorton as the starting PG, Yaxel Lendeborg or Alvaro Folgueiras as the starting PF, and Lamar Wilkerson (and a few others I can no longer remember at the moment) at 2G. But I just think some of those were not going to happen regardless of the recruiting prowess of Pope & staff. Also, it is imperative that the pieces fit – much more so than rankings – and it would be pretty foolish for me to think my guesses about who would be best would be better than the staff’s conclusions; so I'll yield to the staff on who they got.
If we had got Yaxel and still lost scoring 88 points, some of these same people would just say it’s because we don’t have Cam Boozer. Then, if you had Cam Boozer, they’d say it’s because you didn’t have Yaxel. Whatever we do not have is the answer —- sure, we may have scored 88 points, got torched in drop coverage and Otega Oweh is playing pop a shot but let’s fix these wounds with duct tape or Elmer’s glue.
