I'll preface by saying I have only watch 1 game of theirs this year and they lost to Arkansas. That game was much closer than the score indicates. Troy was in it until around the 10 minute mark. Anyway, this is a quick scouting report...

Record 23-10 (13-5 Sun Belt)
They were a 3 seed in their conference tournament. Won 3 games to claim the championship.

Conerway, averages nearly 3 steals a game. won the Sun Belt MOP
Dowd was on the all tournament team.

This is their 3rd tournament appearance, their first since 2017. They have yet to win a game.

Defense is their strong suit. They are in the top 50 in the country in defensive field goal percentage, points allowed, blocks, steals, rebounding, and total field goals made.

They 0-2 vs AP top 25 teams.
L vs #18 Arkansas 49-65
L vs #15 Houston 42-62

Per ESPN overview:
Troy doesn't dazzle offensively: they're among the worst in the tournament in 3 point shooting (30%) and turnover rate (19%). However, they make up for it by being one of the best in the country at offensive rebounding rate and with a strong defense that forces opponents into mistakes.

Will they come out and guard us out past the 3 point line?

Just going off the roster. I see 6-9, 210 and 6-7 260 forwards. Carr and Amari should eat.

They are tough to score on on the paint. Top 20 in 2 point defense. Around 100 in 3 point defense.

Also generate a lot of steals, so Butler being available and taking care of the ball will be critical.

Which means they will go about 14-18 from 3s against us

Offensive rebounding is their strength and one of UKs weaknesses. But I think a healthy Carr can dominate this game.

I remember that game, we should pressure the hell out them. They couldn’t handle the ball at all. Granted Arkansas plays way better defense than us, but if we get into them we will score a ton of transition points.
