41 point win and breaking the century mark. I'll take that! Now need to work on the D.

I just hope all of NU’s opponents are D2 clubs that finished 10 games under .500. (ducks)

I'm not sure that will happen. I thought both Purdue and Michigan State had winning records last year. Purdue is in the West Division so we definitely play them. We would have to win the west and MSU wins the east for us to play both those teams! Not sure who else is good on our schedule. Likely a few more Division one teams. UMass is division two I think.

The Boo to Spencer alley-oop alone made the exhibition worth watching ... but just in case

I loitered on the 1st half thread - now I feel like the guy who drinks too much and doesn't know when it was time to leave the party. We'll learn more in the precon. If 0-1 injuries, this team could be fun to watch and could surprise some folks. Concession food is better this year.

Last comment: Gaines may have added another 5-10 lbs of muscle. Anyone who takes a charge from him is likely to get up limping or bleeding regardless who gets the call. He's an absolute tank.

I was one of the 312 patrons at the game last night and realize my assessment of the team is based solely on this small sample against a weak team, but I agree totally with Lunker’s assessment of the top five players: Gaines, Kopp, Jones, Booie and Spencer. The best player on the court last night was clearly Spencer. Turner, Nance, Young and Greer all should play extensively. Beran has good skills for sure; he might as well play too and develop (or red shirt?). This looks better than a last place team to me.

I didn't see the game last night, but if Spencer can be a top three player for us and Boo can run the point at a Big Ten level (with understandable freshman ups and downs like pretty much every freshman has), that would be a huge jolt for this team. With Gaines, Kopp, and Turner (and hopefully Nance), we'd have ourselves a nice little roster that could win some games this year.

Spencer's ball handling was notably improved last night versus the Italy trip.

I think the way he bodied taller players was something. He's a big, solid guy who is not easily moved. Late in the second half two different Quincy forwards with huge height advantages failed to score after he bodied them.

The fast break mentality was effective last night. Guys were leaking out after misses...Jones for the dunk...Kopp...and especially Spencer.

I think had Beran been the guy who received the feed from Spencer (one play) and got the fast break dunk (a second play) instead of Jones, we'd be psyched about Beran this morning. Thought the frosh all looked fine. Looked like frosh.

Doubt they can afford to redshirt anyone as they only have 11 scholarship players .

Disagree on Jones. He showed agility around the basket with a reverse lay-up, made a nice midrange jumper, and hit a 3 in addition to his dunk. He has a much better all around offensive game than I expected for a frosh. Beran on the other hand really struggled offensively and I expected much mroe. But I grant you that it is way too early to make any conclusions.

Boo was the star of the game for my money. He looks reaady to start and play the majority of the minutes at PG. Having a true point guard gives me hope that this team will be better than last year.

I meant to write nothing negative on Jones. I am sky high on Jones. I think the way the whole center thing has turned out is superior to the track NU was on in early spring. Assuming fouls aren't the achilles.

Agree on Boo but want to see him play against better talent. PG with Boo, Greer and Spencer is vastly improved from last year.

Too bad Beran had such a high recruiting ranking and probably expects to play. Would have been nice to have the luxury of redshirting him. In a few years he would have been a monster. Still can be but this year could be a tough one for him and I'd rather have that year at the back end when we're contending again.

my money would be on him having a pretty good year

he looked good in video from the Europe tour this summer

he did not impress in 15 mins. yesterday

maybe let's give him some time
