Dawson is the next Dan Dakich in the making, where he thinks he's better than everyone else, and he's really, really not.

It probably was a subtle shot at us, and that's upsetting if so.

However, I agree with his sentiment. It is mostly about the Jimmys and Joes, not the Xs and Os.

To be fair. Patrick was inconsistent and Drew was just plain bad

I wonder how good Towles feels that this is the guy that he publicly defended? Seems to me Dawson just threw Patrick under the bus.

Long left, Long right. Draw or 7 yard pass, Punt.

That's good coaching right there.

I know. I would have preferred to stack the LOS and run vertical, but Hindsight is 20-20.

It was 1v1 on the outside. Dawson liked the matchup, and tried to take advantage. Even though I think we should have ran the ball there, It's easy to say how dumb it was after the fact

Was not impressed with Dawson's very short tenure here. Very questionable play calling. Seemed completely unable to adjust to defensive adjustments and would call the same sequence of plays series after series even when the sequence had failed multiple times in a row. Could not deal with a physical mismatch and was unable to game plan around one (see Noah Spence, for one obvious example). Always seemed to call the high risk/low percentage play when unnecessary.

The mark of a good coach/executive/leader is they take responsibility for failure. Saying that it's the QB who makes him look good or bad really calls into question his coaching ability (if we've got a stud at QB why do we need to have you on staff at all?) and his leadership. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say. Gran/Hinshaw are a huge upgrade over this clown.

To be fair, I think that a good quarterback can make most, if not any, coach good or even great. However, the greatest coaches can take most quarterbacks and put them into their system(s) and make them better and succeed. Dawson seems to be admitting that he doesn't have a system, or the ability, to make players better, but instead has a system that is going to be reliant upon finding the perfect QB. While that happens from time to time, it is extremely hard to get consistently, and that means that his success, if he ever has any, will be inconsistent.

It sounded like he was actually taking a jab at himself. He smiled when he said it. As in good players make coaches look good, etc. I'm sure looking back, he would have said it differently.

Towles didn't just regress last season, he hopped into a time machine and went back to the stone age statistically. You'd be hard pressed to have me believe that Dawson wasn't the reason for that.
As it pertains to Drew, how long did it take Hinshaw to figure out Drew's biggest weakness was deep ball accuracy? 2 weeks? Dawson didn't have that figured out for the duration of the season, hence Drew's awful statistics. He kept trying to make Drew be something that he wasn't.

Ask, and you shall receive.

I've heard coaches say that guy makes me look smart or look great but never this one. He just exposed himself not being able to coach plain and simple IMO

"It's football stuff, you wouldn't understand."

One of the most half-assed answers I've ever heard. Should be expected from a guy who admittedly had no idea how to implement the use of tight ends into our offense because "they're so difficult to get in mismatch situations".
He had an All-Freshman SEC tight end, and had no idea how to use him. Kid was a mismatch because of his versatility the moment he walked onto the field.

He had to have been a cancer in the locker room.
something obviously was. season fell apart towards the end. it was obvious.

and after listening, I really don't think that was a shot at UK or Stoops (or Towles for that matter). I think he was just talking generally about his background and philosophy and threw that it, sort of stating the obvious. He wasn't asked "why did you leave UK? and why should our fans have faith in you after what happened there?"......

Easy to say how dumb it was when watching it.

And Towles defended him when he got fired and now Dawson says this.

*******. Sept 3rd needs to get here. Make the *** kicking much sweeter.

Towles is a very loyal guy. The only real negative thing he ever said when he left was when he defended Dawson.

Dawson now takes a swipe at Towles and UK in general.

I agree. Pretty classless.

Want to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was just talking about his career in broad terms, and that he didn't think about how this might be construed. A clarifying statement would be nice.

Coach Hinshaw's comments on Drew's poor footwork exposed Dawson's lack of QB coaching ability.

This on top of the excuses, no accountability, pitiful play calling, indifference to not producing and wise cracking answers makes me more than glad he's gone!!

WE MUST CRUSH Southern Miss to put this jerk in his place!

Nobody is mincing words here. What Dawson said can only be interpreted one way.

Uh, how could it be interpreted as anything but a shot at Towles/UK since he was fired from here 9 months ago, I was trying to justify his abilities to the fanbase of his new employer?

nice to have some bulletin board material for game #1, thx Shannon. I was too blind & dumb of a homer to realize how bad of a fit he was last year. "Tight ends? don't hardly use them. Running quarterback plays? never done that. Wildcat? haven't ever done it."

Like I said, it was a very stupid thing to say- not hard to construe what he said to be about Towles. At the same time, he didn't just start his coaching career at UK. Could be talking about his overall career in broad terms, i.e., the better the QB he's had, the better his system has worked. I think he needs to come out and make a clarifying statement, though. At best, it was dumb. At worst, it was dumb AND a dick move.

UK was the first time that he actually called plays at the FBS level. I think by deduction, we can assume that he was talking about his time at UK.
His system is pretty terrible all around though. "Go long" should never be the primary focus of the offense, yet in his system, it is.
