After Kentucku's victory over archrival Tennessee in 1957, Michaels was quoted as saying, "Nothing sucks like a Big Orange.
Since 1957, seven other Kentucky teams were able to do the same after a win
It's actually incorrect; though, the actual number of wins since then is nothing to brag about, either.Sadly, that is correct, not sure I understand the point of the OP . . . :flushed:

I watched him play as a young boy at Stoll Field. He did it all. An amazing player and one of Blanton Collier's best. If ever statues were erected at CWS, his should follow a choice of Bear Bryant, Babe Pareilli, Bob Gain, Howard Schellenberger and Grorge Blanda.Lou Michaels was one of the best to ever play at UK. Bob Gain and Michaels dominitated.
I stand corrected. 9 teams in the last 58 years could say that after a victory.
A volunteer fan whose mouth (fingers) move faster than his brain?!?!I stand corrected. 9 teams in the last 58 years could say that after a victory.
He stole it from me. I say it all the time ! LOL!After Kentucku's victory over archrival Tennessee in 1957, Michaels was quoted as saying, "Nothing sucks like a Big Orange.

Inconceivable.
Yeah, uk football has been pathetic for a long time, no doubt. You guys have had 2-3 generations to count to 10 here but haven't gotten there yet

Instead of continually picking at such low-hanging fruit to make yourself feel better, you should go talk some smack on the Bama or Florida boards.
I'm sure they could use a good laugh...
UT is a power in women's basketball.
This^^^
Thank you Orange clown for coming over and talking smack in a thread revolving around an All time Cat great that died this week. It just confirms your total lack of class and appropriate choice of my second favorite team...whoever is playing UT and UL.
Well, I was only 13 back then but I'm not sure I ever heard the word "sucks" as a derogatory phrase until MANY years later. And I seem to recall being a young adult as the use of this word in that context crept into American slang. Now, of course, "sucks" (in that context) is part of everyday colloquialisms. FWIW, Wikipedia says Michaels said it but I have some real doubts on the accuracy of that source (no reference to any specific article or interview; just that he said it).
Peace
That statement, i.e., the "urban slang" or colloquial context of the word "sucks" to mean something "bad", just seems "out of place" for 1959, that's all. Nothing more, nothing less. Thanks for clarifying your doubt of the meaning of "sucks" in the 50's and whether or not he said what he said. What exactly is the point of you expressing your doubt?
Guys, arguing the results of our football clashes with Tennessee is not going to end with a favorable result for us. They have owned us for years. I am 50, I remember 2 wins, one in early 80's with Bill Ransdell and the most recent with the wide receiver turned quarterback whose name escapes me.You guys have had 2-3 generations to count to 10 here but haven't gotten there yet
