A great coach.
Back in '87 Evanston opened up against LA and the Ramblers prevailed 16-8. When the 'Kits lost their next game, a number of concerned parents held a meeting to discuss how the team could be better run, including starters, assistant coaches, play-calling, etc. The concerned parents insisted it wasn't racial. Powers quit.
With a truce in place, if I remember correctly Powers was re-instated, they ran the table, won the first round and faced LA again.
LA won 14-7.
And Powers left again.
Next year, they opened at LA and with a new coach they lost again 14-13. The kid whose parent organized the meeting? He caught a 50-yard bomb and got tackled on the 1. And time ran out.
