Taylor is pretty damn good at her job. Better than Nichols is, and Nichols is pretty good too. Don’t know why ESPN feels the need to make so their can only be one major woman personality though. They have numerous good women in the studio and in-game.
A small few is not "numerous".

I don't think you understood what she was saying. It was not about woman vs woman.

She really didn't say anything bad and nothing I wouldn't guess that doesn't go on at any company but it's just not what you would want your bosses to hear. The real pos is the person that recorded her.

While I don't watch ESPN anymore I was always partial to Linda Cohn. Thought she was really good.

Taylor is much better at her job than Nichols who is insufferable, never been able to make it through a segment of The Jump because 90% of the show just to seems to be her babbling about something. At the same time she is probably correct about her assumption.

Taylors contract is up at ESPN in a couple weeks, and she reportedly wants way more than they are offering, so the timing of this leak is not coincidental at all.

The people who say nothing is wrong with Nichols statements is baffling to me. Leave race out of it. Nichols is stating that Taylor got her position for something other than her ability even though Taylor has proven to be one of the best at ESPN. It's simply comical for Nichols to say that when almost everything points to her getting her start at ESPN simply because her mother in law is Diane Sawyer. It might not have been the sole reason she was hired but it certainly didn't hurt either. Taylor has proven to be much better at her job than Nichols.

Rachel Nichols never blinks when she talks. And The other one has some super long legs.

I’m taking the other one if I had to pick.

Maria Taylor is pretty good, but she is asking for like $7M per year. She’s kind of like Erin Andrews pt 2. Yeah, we like you, we think you’re better/prettier than the other gals ESPN trots out there, but we’re not watching college football because of you. I think ESPN knows this too, and that’s why they aren’t opening the checkbook for her. And I think Maria’s team leaked this for leverage.

Oh, and Rachel Nichols sucks. I turn off the TV when she is on it. But I agree with her point. That was her job. They took it away. Damn right she should be pissed. And any gaf who says she should “be an ally” would do the same thing if they were in her shoes.

Also, Rachel Nichols' late father-in-law, Mike Nichols, is one of the most successful and respected film and theater directors ever. I obviously have no idea how much, if any, Rachel Nichols' incredible in-law connections helped her out of her long-time job with The Washington Post and onto ESPN, but like you note, they're worth pointing out.

"Those same people — who are, like, generally white conservative male Trump voters — is part of the reason I’ve had a hard time at ESPN, Nichols said during the taped conversation.”

😂

Honestly…who are the Trump supporters at ESPN? You know that meme where Ken Jeong is looking at the tiny piece of paper? That’s the list of Trump supporters at espn

If there’s one thing ESPN/Disney/ABC is known for, it’s that they’re obviously Trump-supporting white conservatives. 😂

That’s why they gave Bruce Jenner an award for dressing in drag.

Doris Burke and Linda Cohn are the only female talents I respect as sports media. Everyone else is simply there for eye candy. That’s the truth and everyone knows it.
I only respect the ugly female sports anchors just like I only respect models and actresses that have legit nudes out there.

Well she claims it was her job. None of us have seen that contract.

Of course she's right but I don't feel at all sorry for her though. When you're part of the mob that created the hierarchy based on how many diversity boxes are checked; you don't deserve any sympathy.

Hot, black, female. Like a perfect mix of today's wokeness with yesterday's shallowness. Nichols didn't stand a chance. Well... unless she wants to announce she's gay or bi...that would let her even up the boxes checked.

oh and Maria asking for Stephan A money is just absolutely hilarious. I don't watch ESPN unless it's UK, but even I know how much Stephen A influences ratings. Meanwhile she just happens to be on a show people will watch no matter who's hosting

Yep. And The Graduate, Catch-22, Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf?, and numerous other great films. And he's one of only a handful of people who ever achieved an EGOT: he won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Suffice to say, he was extremely well-connected in the entertainment industry.

The next ESPN story I hope to read will be headlined “The Rise and Shocking Collapse of a TV Sports Dynasty: How Misjudging American Sports Fans Led to the End of ESPN.”
I watched espn every day for sportscenter and the afternoon shows like pti. Then every show got more and more progressive and now I only watch games and the scott van pelt sportscenter.
