Sorry, I realize this may be old news, but I missed it until today. I wish him the very best. Is he going to be a big loss for Oline? IIRC he was no longer a starter, but a very serviceable backup. Thanks
Stoops said he was graduating early and he was tired of the grind. Some of these guys have goals outside of football. He was gonna be buried next year on the depth chart.Sorry, I realize this may be old news, but I missed it until today. I wish him the very best. Is he going to be a big loss for Oline? I agree with you, but check this out. Back in the early 70's a LB named Jim Kovach played his senior season while attending medical school. Practiced 3 days a week. And isn't he goin to grad school next year? Football is hard enough as an undergrad but I couldn't imagine tryin to play as a grad student. That's a full time job in itself. I commend a kid who realizes that they aren't going to feed their family playin football and decide to move on to bigger things that will put food on the table.

Kovach was the exception and not the rule.
One of my favorite players of all time......would love it if JR or someone at CI could reach out for an interview with him sometime. Wonder if he ever gets back to watch a game?Kovach also completed med school while he was playing for the Saints, going to school in the off season. With the expectations on players these days I don't see that being possible. (He also went to law school after football.)
Meyers seems to have fallen victim to the very common burn out of years of organized athletics- for some it just gets old and like many on here I agree he knew it was time. I think it is interesting that many assume he would be buried in the depth chart or that he slipped to second string because others were more talented and surpassed him. That very well could be the case- but I would be willing to wager that his slip has nothing to do with talent and more with the fact he was tired of playing and his effort waned. When your effort goes, it shows on the field and allows others to bypass you regardless of talent. He probably tried to fight through it and just had enough. Regardless, I appreciate his contributions and wish him well. Hopefully he can end his career on high note in the area he is from.
Meyers would not have been "buried" on next year's depth chart, but he would not have been a starter. Meyers has enough credits to graduate. And you are right, some players have goals beyond football. What he is doing is not rare. Happens every year with some of our 4 year juniors.Stoops said he was graduating early and he was tired of the grind. Some of these guys have goals outside of football.
