Sorry, I realize this may be old news, but I missed it until today. I wish him the very best. Is he going to be a big loss for Oline? IIRC he was no longer a starter, but a very serviceable backup. Thanks

Stoops said he was graduating early and he was tired of the grind. Some of these guys have goals outside of football. He was gonna be buried next year on the depth chart.

Got his degree, time to move on with his life. A loss from the standpoint of taking away an experienced guy but opens the door for a little more talented guy. Wished he had hung on but understand his decision.

And isn't he goin to grad school next year? Football is hard enough as an undergrad but I couldn't imagine tryin to play as a grad student. That's a full time job in itself. I commend a kid who realizes that they aren't going to feed their family playin football and decide to move on to bigger things that will put food on the table.

Nick Haynes, Bunchy Stallings, Logan Stenberg, we're crowding him at the guard spots. Add in Drake Jackson (one of Drake/Bunchy goes to C), Tate Leavitt possibly, etc... it's a good spot for UK

He started the season at RG, but Bunchy improved and took his starting spot. Ramsey still gets at least a few series each game and does fairly well.

Sport isn't everything when you aren't looking forward to the draft, and have gotten your education. Good luck to the young man. He's played as much football for us as most guys do when completing their eligibility. He was there for us when the cupboard was otherwise bare.

I agree with you, but check this out. Back in the early 70's a LB named Jim Kovach played his senior season while attending medical school. Practiced 3 days a week.

Kovach also completed med school while he was playing for the Saints, going to school in the off season. With the expectations on players these days I don't see that being possible. (He also went to law school after football.)

Some years ago I ran into a recently graduated player who had been a 4 year player on the o-line. He was working in a bank. His last 2 years the team had pretty much been a dumpster fire, but had turned things around and was having pretty good season. I asked him if he regretted that he wasn't out there playing. He said, "no, I'm happy for my teammates, but I'm 23, I've had both knees rebuilt, and I got my degree. I'm glad I'm done with football."

Meyers seems to have fallen victim to the very common burn out of years of organized athletics- for some it just gets old and like many on here I agree he knew it was time. I think it is interesting that many assume he would be buried in the depth chart or that he slipped to second string because others were more talented and surpassed him. That very well could be the case- but I would be willing to wager that his slip has nothing to do with talent and more with the fact he was tired of playing and his effort waned. When your effort goes, it shows on the field and allows others to bypass you regardless of talent. He probably tried to fight through it and just had enough. Regardless, I appreciate his contributions and wish him well. Hopefully he can end his career on high note in the area he is from.

That's really impressive! My brother went to med school and I know how crazy that is. When would a guy sleep doin that? That much dedication to anything is really admirable.

One of my favorite players of all time......would love it if JR or someone at CI could reach out for an interview with him sometime. Wonder if he ever gets back to watch a game?

The OL looked much better once Bunchy took over. He is a true road grader. Most other years Meyers would've been a starter but Stoops has really improved the talent level.

I think we will continue to see Juniors and Seniors losing their starting spot to Red Shirt Freshmen and Sophmores. As the recruiting gets better, which it will, if we continue to win, were going to get more talented players then we have got in the past. Were seeing that in the present recruiting class, and after next year, hopefully, it will be even better. Instead of 3 or 4, four start players, as ranked by the recruiting sites, maybe we will get 8 or 10.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

I think a lot of the line switching this year also centered around the fact we switched offensive mindsets mid season- we went from a passing offense to a running offense which means we needed more run blocking and less pass blocking. The reality is we played 10 offensive linemen so no one was rock solid in playing time, it was definitely a time share and I love that approach. You keep a rested line, you develop a deep roster and eventually it can lead to turning kids into a pro pipe line. Not saying we are Alabama, but Alabama uses that approach especially with their D line. I think it will be interesting to see how the line plays out when we are truly a balanced offense or more balanced

Meyers would not have been "buried" on next year's depth chart, but he would not have been a starter. Meyers has enough credits to graduate. And you are right, some players have goals beyond football. What he is doing is not rare. Happens every year with some of our 4 year juniors.
